“비번 중에도 불길 보자 곧바로 진화”…해남 의용소방대원, 소각 화재 확산 막았다

전남광주 해남군 화산면에서 쓰레기를 소각하던 중 발생한 화재가 주변으로 번질 수 있는 상황에서 의용소방대원이 신속한 초기 진화에 나서 연소 확대를 막았다.

해남소방서(서장 정형중)는 화산면에서 쓰레기 소각 중 발생한 화재 현장을 장준호 의용소방대원이 발견하고 즉시 초기 진화에 나서 피해 확산을 막았다고 밝혔다.

특히 장 대원은 당시 공식적인 의용소방대 활동 중이 아니었음에도 화재를 발견하자 곧바로 현장 대응에 나섰다.

쓰레기 소각 과정에서 발생한 불이 주변으로 번질 우려가 있었지만 장 대원의 신속한 초기 진화로 연소 확대를 막을 수 있었다.

이후 신고를 받고 출동한 소방대원들이 현장에 도착해 남아 있던 불씨를 정리하고 추가적인 화재 위험이 없는지 확인하는 등 안전조치를 마무리했다.

소방당국은 쓰레기 소각 등 부주의로 발생한 불이 건조한 날씨나 바람의 영향으로 주변 산림과 건축물 등으로 번질 수 있는 만큼 소각행위와 화기 취급에 각별한 주의가 필요하다고 강조했다.

정형중 해남소방서장은 “화재를 발견하고 신속하게 초기 대응에 나서준 의용소방대원에게 감사드린다.”며 “앞으로도 쓰레기 소각 등 부주의로 인한 화재 예방을 강화하고, 의용소방대원의 역량 향상과 사기 진작에도 지속적으로 힘쓰겠다.”고 말했다.

A volunteer firefighter in Haenam County, Jeonnam-Gwangju, prevented a fire caused by waste burning from spreading after quickly taking action upon discovering the flames in Hwasan-myeon.
The Haenam Fire Station, headed by Fire Chief Jeong Hyeong-jung, said volunteer firefighter Jang Jun-ho discovered the fire and immediately began initial firefighting efforts, helping prevent the flames from spreading and causing further damage.
Jang was not on official volunteer firefighting duty at the time. Nevertheless, after spotting the fire, he immediately responded at the scene.
The flames, which originated during waste burning, posed a risk of spreading to the surrounding area, but Jang’s rapid initial response helped contain the fire before it could expand.
Firefighters dispatched after receiving an emergency report subsequently arrived at the scene, extinguished the remaining embers, and carried out safety checks to ensure there was no risk of the fire reigniting.
Fire authorities stressed that fires caused by carelessness, including waste burning, can quickly spread to nearby forests and buildings, particularly in dry or windy conditions. They urged residents to exercise extra caution when burning materials or handling open flames.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the volunteer firefighter who discovered the fire and responded so quickly,” Fire Chief Jeong Hyeong-jung said. “We will continue to strengthen efforts to prevent fires caused by carelessness, including waste burning, while also enhancing the capabilities and morale of our volunteer firefighters.”
