추석 명절을 앞두고 경찰이 늦은 시간 여성 혼자 근무하거나 운영하는 편의점의 범죄예방을 위해 현장 방범진단에 나섰다.

해남경찰서(서장 박미영) 화산파출소(소장 이홍주)는 추석 연휴를 앞두고 관내 여성 1인 운영 편의점을 대상으로 범죄예방을 위한 방범진단 활동을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 방범진단은 추석 연휴 기간 편의점 이용객이 늘어나고 현금 취급이 증가하면서 발생할 가능성이 있는 절도와 폭력 등 각종 범죄를 사전에 예방하고, 특히 늦은 시간 혼자 근무하는 여성 종사자의 안전을 확보하기 위해 마련됐다.

경찰은 현장을 직접 방문해 편의점 내·외부에 설치된 CCTV가 정상적으로 작동하는지 확인하고 비상벨 등 주요 방범시설의 관리 상태를 점검했다.

또 출입구를 비롯해 건물 주변의 사각지대와 외부에서 접근하기 쉬운 취약요소가 있는지도 살폈다.

단순한 시설 점검에 그치지 않고 실제 범죄나 위험 상황이 발생했을 때 신속하게 대응할 수 있도록 112 신고요령과 상황별 대응방법도 안내했다.

특히 경찰은 여성 1인 근무자들에게 심야시간 수상한 행동을 하는 손님이 방문하거나 위협적인 상황이 발생할 경우 직접 상대하거나 혼자 해결하려 하지 말고 안전을 확보한 뒤 즉시 112에 신고해 줄 것을 당부했다.

편의점은 영업시간이 길고 심야에도 운영되는 경우가 많은 데다 현금을 취급하고 불특정 다수가 출입하는 특성 때문에 명절 연휴와 야간시간대의 세심한 범죄예방 활동이 중요하다.

이에 따라 화산파출소는 추석 연휴 기간 편의점 등 범죄 취약업소 주변을 중심으로 취약시간대 순찰을 강화하고, 현장 중심의 예방활동을 통해 범죄 발생 가능성을 사전에 낮춘다는 방침이다.

특히 이번 활동은 범죄가 발생한 뒤 대응하는 사후 치안보다 범죄 가능성이 높은 장소와 시간대를 미리 찾아 위험요인을 제거하는 ‘예방 중심 치안’이라는 점에서 의미가 있다.

경찰은 편의점뿐만 아니라 명절을 전후해 현금 취급이 많거나 여성 혼자 근무하는 업소 등에 대해서도 지속적인 관심과 순찰이 필요하다고 보고 지역 실정에 맞는 예방활동을 이어갈 계획이다.

Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, police in Haenam are stepping up crime-prevention efforts at convenience stores where women work alone, particularly during late-night hours.
The Hwasan Police Box, under the Haenam Police Station headed by Chief Park Mi-young, said it conducted on-site security inspections at convenience stores operated by women working alone as part of its preventive policing efforts ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
The inspections were designed to prevent theft, violence and other crimes that could occur as convenience stores experience increased customer traffic and cash transactions during the holiday period. Particular attention was given to protecting women who work alone late at night.
Police officers visited convenience stores and inspected whether indoor and outdoor CCTV cameras were functioning properly. They also checked emergency alarms and other key security equipment.
Officers examined store entrances, blind spots around the buildings and other areas that could potentially pose security risks.
In addition to inspecting security facilities, police provided guidance on how to quickly report crimes or dangerous situations to the 112 emergency hotline and explained appropriate responses to various emergency scenarios.
Police particularly advised women working alone not to confront suspicious or threatening customers by themselves during late-night hours. Instead, workers were urged to move to a safe location and immediately call 112.
Convenience stores can be particularly vulnerable to crime because many remain open late at night, handle cash and are accessible to an unspecified number of customers. For this reason, police say careful preventive measures are especially important during holidays and late-night hours.
The Hwasan Police Box plans to strengthen patrols around convenience stores and other crime-vulnerable businesses during the Chuseok holiday, particularly at times considered most susceptible to criminal activity.
The initiative reflects a preventive policing approach aimed at identifying and reducing potential risks before crimes occur, rather than responding only after an incident has taken place.
Police also plan to continue preventive activities tailored to local conditions, paying particular attention to businesses that handle large amounts of cash or are staffed by women working alone during the holiday period.
“During the Chuseok holiday, we will strengthen preventive measures at convenience stores operated by women working alone and other businesses potentially vulnerable to crime,” Hwasan Police Box Chief Lee Hong-joo said.
“We will do our utmost to maintain public safety so that local residents can enjoy the holiday with peace of mind.”
