전라남도가 본격적인 영농철을 앞두고 도서·산간 오지 농업인을 위한 ‘현장 밀착형 농기계 지원’에 나섰다.
단순한 수리를 넘어 농업인의 생존과 직결된 생산 기반을 지키기 위한 선제 대응이라는 점에서 주목된다.

전라남도농업기술원은 농기계 사용이 급증하는 시기를 대비해 도서·오지 지역을 중심으로 ‘찾아가는 농기계 순회수리 봉사’를 본격 실시한다고 밝혔다. 이번 사업은 7월 말까지 진행되며, 영광군 낙월면을 포함한 도서 및 산간 지역 7개 시군 21개 마을이 대상이다.

이번 순회수리에는 농기계 교관과 품목별 전문지도사 등 10명으로 구성된 전남도농업기술원과 시군 합동 수리반이 투입된다. 현장에서 즉시 점검과 정비를 실시하는 것은 물론, 농업인이 스스로 기계를 관리할 수 있도록 실질적인 교육까지 병행하는 것이 특징이다.

특히 고장으로 장기간 방치된 농기계는 마을회관 등 현장에서 즉시 수리하고, 이동이 어려운 고령 농가와 취약계층, 여성농업인의 경우 직접 농가를 방문해 점검과 수리를 진행한다. 단순 서비스 제공을 넘어 ‘농촌 맞춤형 복지 행정’의 성격을 강화한 조치다.

현장 교육도 함께 진행된다. 농기계 점검 요령과 기본 정비 기술, 안전관리 방법 등을 중심으로 한 실습형 교육을 통해 농업인의 자가 정비 능력을 높이고 안전사고 예방 효과까지 동시에 노린다는 전략이다.
실제 성과도 확인됐다.
전남도농업기술원은 지난해 순천 등 7개 시군 21개 마을에서 순회수리를 실시해 총 385농가, 586건의 농기계를 수리하고 안전교육을 병행해 높은 만족도를 이끌어냈다.

김상권 전남도농업기술원 농업교육과장은 “도서·오지 지역을 중심으로 농기계 순회수리 봉사를 내실 있게 추진해 농기계 안전사고 예방에 최선을 다하겠다.”며 “모내기철 이전 사전 점검을 통해 농업인의 영농 불편을 최소화하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

이번 조치는 단순한 정비 지원을 넘어, 농촌 현장의 구조적 불편을 해소하고 ‘농업 생산의 마지막 안전망’을 구축하는 정책으로 평가된다.
전남도가 현장을 향해 움직이기 시작했다는 점에서, 그 파급력은 단순 수리를 넘어설 것으로 보인다.

“No More Abandoned Broken Farm Machinery”… Jeonnam Province Goes Directly to Remote Villages

Jeollanam-do has launched an on-site, farmer-focused agricultural machinery support initiative targeting island and mountainous remote areas ahead of the peak farming season.
This proactive measure is drawing attention as it goes beyond simple repairs to protect the very foundation of agricultural production and farmers’ livelihoods.
The Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced that it will begin a “mobile agricultural machinery repair service,” focusing on remote island and mountainous regions where machinery use is expected to increase significantly. The program will run through the end of July, covering 21 villages across 7 counties, including Nakwol-myeon in Yeonggwang.
The repair teams consist of 10 members, including agricultural machinery instructors and specialized crop advisors, jointly organized by the provincial institute and local governments. They will conduct on-site inspections and repairs while also providing practical training to help farmers independently manage and maintain their equipment.
In particular, machinery that has been left unused due to breakdowns will be repaired immediately at village halls or other local sites. For elderly farmers, vulnerable groups, and women farmers who face mobility challenges, the teams will visit individual households to provide direct inspection and repair services. This initiative strengthens the concept of “customized rural welfare administration,” going beyond basic service delivery.
Hands-on training will also be provided, focusing on inspection techniques, basic maintenance skills, and safety management. The goal is to enhance farmers’ self-repair capabilities while simultaneously preventing safety accidents.
The program has already demonstrated tangible results. Last year, similar mobile repair services were conducted in 21 villages across 7 counties, including Suncheon, benefiting 385 farming households and handling 586 cases of machinery repair, alongside safety education—earning strong positive feedback from farmers.
Kim Sang-kwon, Director of the Agricultural Education Division at the Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, stated, “We will strengthen mobile repair services in island and remote areas and make every effort to prevent agricultural machinery accidents,” adding, “Through pre-rice-transplanting inspections, we will minimize inconveniences for farmers during the farming season.”
This initiative is being evaluated as more than just a maintenance support program—it represents a policy effort to resolve structural challenges in rural areas and to build a “last safety net” for agricultural production.
As Jeonnam begins to move directly toward the field, its impact is expected to go far beyond simple repairs.
