“해남 평화의 소녀상, 새 옷 입고 10주년 맞이”

해남군이 해남공원 내 평화의 소녀상 보수공사를 완료하며 시민들에게 새롭게 단장한 모습을 선보였다.

평화의 소녀상은 일본군 위안부 피해자들의 아픔을 기억하고 역사적 교훈을 되새기기 위해 2015년 지역 시민단체와 전라남도, 해남군, 군민들의 자발적 참여와 모금으로 건립된 상징물로, 올해 설치 10주년을 맞았다.

청동으로 제작된 동상은 세월의 흐름에 따라 얼굴 도색이 벗겨지고 안내 동판이 노후화되는 등 보수가 필요한 상황이었다.

이에 해남군은 지난달 9일부터 전문 보수 업체를 통해 세척·도색·설명판 교체 작업을 진행했으며, 9월 말까지 보수를 마무리했다.

이로써 10월부터 군민과 방문객들은 복원된 소녀상을 안전하게 관람할 수 있게 되었다.

또한 해남군은 이번 보수를 계기로 정기 점검을 강화하고, 훼손 방지를 위해 해남경찰서와 협력해 이동형 CCTV를 설치·운영 중이다.

내년부터는 고정식 통합 관제형 CCTV로 교체해 군 통합관제센터에서 실시간 모니터링을 실시, 보호 조치를 한층 강화할 계획이다.

군 관계자는 “평화의 소녀상은 해남의 역사와 군민의 뜻이 담긴 소중한 상징물”이라며 “정기적인 점검과 보수를 통해 지속적인 관리에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

이어 “군민 여러분의 성숙한 시민의식으로 평화의 소녀상이 더욱 오래도록 기억되고 존중받는 공간이 되길 기대한다.”고 덧붙였다.

“Haenam’s Statue of Peace Girls Gets a New Look on Its 10th Anniversary”
– Restoration Completed, CCTV Management Strengthened –
Haenam County has completed the restoration of the Statue of Peace Girls in Haenam Park, presenting citizens with a newly refurbished landmark.
The Statue of Peace Girls was erected in 2015 through voluntary participation and fundraising by local civic groups, the Jeollanam-do Province, Haenam County, and residents to honor the suffering of victims of Japanese military sexual slavery and to serve as a historical reminder. This year marks the statue’s 10th anniversary.
Made of bronze, the statue had experienced peeling paint on the face and deterioration of the information plaque over time, making restoration necessary.
Starting from September 9, Haenam County commissioned a professional restoration company to carry out cleaning, repainting, and plaque replacement, completing the work by the end of September.
From October onwards, residents and visitors can safely view the restored statue.
In addition, Haenam County has strengthened regular inspections and, in cooperation with Haenam Police Station, installed and is operating mobile CCTVs to prevent damage.
Next year, the mobile units will be replaced with fixed, integrated surveillance CCTVs connected to the County Control Center, allowing real-time monitoring and enhanced protection measures.
A county official stated, “The Statue of Peace Girls is a precious symbol reflecting Haenam’s history and the will of its residents. We will continue to do our utmost to ensure its regular maintenance and care.”
The official added, “We hope that through the mature civic consciousness of our residents, the Statue of Peace Girls will remain a place that is remembered and respected for a long time.”
