진도군이 구제역 예방을 위해 발 빠르게 움직이고 있다. 하반기 구제역 백신 일제 접종을 통해 소, 염소, 돼지 등 약 45,968마리를 대상으로 안전망을 구축하고 있다.

이번 접종은 소규모 농가는 수의사의 직접 접종 지원을 받고, 전업 규모 농가는 자가 접종으로 진행된다.

수의사 접종은 9월 1일부터 30일까지, 자가 접종은 9월 15일부터 28일까지 이루어진다.

진도군농협 관계자는 “구제역은 단순한 질병이 아니라, 발생 시 농가 피해가 막대합니다. 농가와 행정이 함께 예방에 나서야만 안전을 지킬 수 있습니다.”라며 “이번 일제 접종을 통해 청정지역 진도를 지켜낼 것”이라고 밝혔다.

지난해에도 철저한 예방접종 덕분에 진도군은 인근 지역에서 구제역이 발생했음에도 피해 없이 청정지역 지위를 유지할 수 있었다.

실제 한 축산 농가는 “작년 구제역이 전국적으로 확산될 때, 농협과 진도군이 함께 접종과 관리를 철저히 해주신 덕분에 안심할 수 있었다.”며 “이번에도 반드시 기간 내 접종을 완료해 우리 가축과 지역을 지키겠다.”고 말했다.

진도군은 접종 후 항체가 검사를 통해 효과를 확인하고, 기준치에 미달한 농가에는 과태료를 부과하며, 추가 접종과 재검사를 시행할 예정이다.

또한 전담 공무원이 현장에 입회해 철저한 지도와 점검을 진행하며, 취약 농가를 중심으로 관찰(모니터링)을 강화해 방역 사각지대를 막는다.

진도군 진도개축산과 관계자는 “구제역 청정지역을 유지하기 위해서는 농가의 적극적인 참여가 필수적이다”며, “농협과 긴밀히 협력해 이번 접종을 성공적으로 마치고, 모든 농가가 안전하게 가축을 관리할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다.”고 전했다.

한편, 예방접종 후 4주가 지나지 않은 가축, 임신 말기의 가축, 일제 접종 유예 신청 농가는 이번 접종에서 제외된다.

Jindo County Conducts Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccination for 46,000 Cattle, Sheep, and Pigs
― Protecting “FMD-Free Jindo” Together with the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) ―
Jindo County is taking proactive measures to prevent foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) and safeguard its livestock industry. During the second half of the year, approximately 45,968 cattle, goats, and pigs will receive FMD vaccinations as part of a large-scale, coordinated effort.
For small-scale farms, veterinarians will provide direct vaccination support, while large-scale commercial farms will carry out self-vaccination. Vaccinations by veterinarians will be conducted from September 1 to 30, and self-vaccinations from September 15 to 28.
A representative from Jindo County’s NACF said, “Foot-and-mouth disease is not just a disease—it can cause devastating losses to farmers. Protecting our livestock requires close cooperation between farmers and local authorities. Through this coordinated vaccination, we aim to maintain Jindo’s FMD-free status.”
Last year, thanks to thorough preventive vaccinations, Jindo County successfully remained FMD-free even when neighboring regions experienced outbreaks.
One local livestock farmer shared, “When FMD spread nationwide last year, I felt reassured because NACF and Jindo County conducted vaccinations and monitoring so thoroughly. This year, we will also complete vaccinations within the designated period to protect our livestock and community.”
Jindo County will conduct post-vaccination antibody testing to confirm effectiveness. Farms that do not meet the required antibody levels will face fines, and additional vaccinations and retesting will be conducted as necessary.
During the vaccination period, dedicated officials will oversee the process, providing guidance and monitoring, particularly for vulnerable farms, to prevent any gaps in disease prevention.
A representative from Jindo County’s Livestock Division emphasized, “Maintaining Jindo as an FMD-free region requires active participation from all farmers. We will work closely with NACF to ensure the vaccination campaign succeeds and that every farm can manage livestock safely.”
Meanwhile, animals that have not yet reached four weeks post-vaccination, those in late pregnancy, or farms that applied for a vaccination exemption are excluded from this campaign.
