“79세 노인, 집 지키다 쓰러졌다”
북평면 주택 3동 전소… 초동 진화 중 연기흡입·열상 부상

해남군 북평면에서 발생한 주택 화재로 70대 노인이 부상을 입고 병원으로 이송됐다.

불은 주택 3동을 태우며 430㎡ 규모를 소실시킨 것으로 추정된다.

해남소방서에 따르면 화재는 2월 11일 오후 7시 57분경 해남군 북평면 이진리(이진리마을회관 인근) 한 주택에서 발생했다.
“집 안에서 불이 났다”는 신고가 접수되면서 즉시 출동 지령이 내려졌다.

소방당국은 지휘차 1대, 탱크차 3대, 펌프차 5대, 구조·구급차 등 총 16대의 장비와 34명(소방 30, 경찰 2, 한전 2)을 투입해 진화에 나섰다.

오후 8시 4분 선착대가 현장에 도착했고, 오후 9시 14분 초진에 성공했다.

이번 화재로 주택 소유자인 A씨(79)가 자체 진화를 시도하던 중 연기를 흡입하고 다리에 열상을 입어 현장에서 응급처치를 받은 뒤 해남종합병원으로 이송됐다.

다행히 생명에는 지장이 없는 것으로 알려졌다.
불이 난 건물은 조적조 스레트 구조(1층) 3동으로, 안채와 별채, 저온창고 부지 등 총 430㎡ 규모가 소실된 것으로 추정된다.

해당 건물은 무허가 건물로, 정확한 피해 규모는 추가 조사 결과에 따라 변동될 가능성이 있다.

소방당국과 경찰은 화재 원인과 정확한 재산 피해 규모를 조사 중이다.

한편, 겨울철 농촌 지역에서는 난방기기 사용 증가와 노후 전기시설로 인한 화재 위험이 높아지는 만큼 각별한 주의가 요구된다.

특히 고령 가구의 경우 화재 발생 시 초기 대응 과정에서 2차 인명피해로 이어질 수 있어, 무리한 자체 진화보다는 즉각적인 신고와 대피가 무엇보다 중요하다는 지적이다.

“A 79-Year-Old Collapses While Trying to Save His Home”
Three Houses Destroyed in Bukpyeong-myeon Fire… Injured During Initial Firefighting Attempt
A residential fire in Bukpyeong-myeon, Haenam County, left a man in his 70s injured and transported to hospital.
The blaze is estimated to have destroyed three residential structures, burning approximately 430 square meters.
According to the Haenam Fire Station, the fire broke out at around 7:57 p.m. on February 11 at a home near Ijin-ri Village Hall in Bukpyeong-myeon, Haenam County. Fire authorities were immediately dispatched after receiving a report that “a fire had broken out inside the house.”
A total of 34 personnel—including 30 firefighters, 2 police officers, and 2 Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) staff—were mobilized, along with 16 pieces of equipment such as one command vehicle, three water tankers, five pump trucks, rescue units, and ambulances.
The first responding unit arrived at the scene at 8:04 p.m., and the fire was brought under control at approximately 9:14 p.m.
The homeowner, identified only as Mr. A (79), attempted to extinguish the fire himself and suffered smoke inhalation and lacerations to his leg. He received emergency treatment on site before being transported to Haenam General Hospital. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The damaged buildings were three single-story masonry structures with slate roofing, including the main house, an annex, and a low-temperature storage facility, totaling an estimated 430 square meters in burned area.
The structures were reportedly unregistered (unauthorized) buildings, and the exact extent of property damage may change pending further investigation.
Fire authorities and police are currently investigating the cause of the blaze and assessing the precise scale of property loss.
Officials emphasized that rural areas face heightened fire risks during winter due to increased heating appliance use and aging electrical facilities. In particular, elderly residents are at greater risk of secondary injuries when attempting to extinguish fires themselves, underscoring the importance of immediate evacuation and prompt reporting rather than attempting solo firefighting efforts.
