완도해양경찰서(서장 김길규)가 본격적인 김장철을 앞두고 농·수산물의 부정 유통을 뿌리 뽑기 위해 12월 5일까지 ‘원산지 범죄 특별단속’에 나선다.

소비자가 믿고 사는 ‘안전한 김장재료 시장’을 만들겠다는 강력한 의지다.

이번 단속은 천일염, 새우젓, 고춧가루 등 국민이 많이 찾는 주요 수입 농·수산물을 중심으로 실시된다.
특히
▲컨테이너를 이용한 대규모 밀반입
▲원산지 미표시·부적정 표시
▲국내산으로 속이는 허위·혼동 표시
▲매점매석·사재기 등 시장 교란 행위
등을 집중적으로 파헤치는 고강도 점검이 이뤄진다.

온라인 거래가 급증한 최근 소비 트렌드도 반영했다.

완도해경은 지역 상점뿐 아니라 수입업체·통신판매업체까지 단속 범위를 넓혀, 농·수산물의 전 유통 경로를 면밀히 들여다볼 예정이다.

해경 관계자는 “김장철마다 되풀이되는 부정 유통을 이번에는 반드시 끊어내겠다.”며 “군민과 소비자들이 안심하고 김장 재료를 구입할 수 있는 시장질서 확립에 총력을 다 하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

한편, 원산지를 거짓 표시할 경우 최대 7년 이하의 징역 또는 1억 원 이하의 벌금, 원산지 미표시 시 5만~1,000만 원 이하의 과태료가 부과되는 등 처벌 규정도 매우 엄격하다.

이번 특별단속을 통해 완도산 김장문화의 신뢰도는 더 높아지고, 안전한 먹거리 시장 환경이 더욱 강화될 것으로 기대된다.

Wando Coast Guard Launches Intensive Crackdown on Origin-Fraud Crimes Until December 5
The Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Gil-gyu) has launched a special crackdown on agricultural and marine product origin-fraud crimes ahead of the peak kimchi-making season, running until December 5.
This strong enforcement drive reflects the agency’s commitment to ensuring a safe and trustworthy market for kimchi ingredients.
The crackdown focuses on major imported agricultural and marine products widely used during kimchi season—such as solar salt, salted shrimp, and red pepper powder.
In particular, the Coast Guard will zero in on:
Large-scale smuggling using containers
Failure to label origin or improper labeling
False or misleading origin labeling, including disguising foreign goods as domestic
Market-disruption behaviors such as hoarding and stockpiling
The heightened inspections will target these violations through rigorous on-site investigations.
To reflect the growing trend of online purchases, the Wando Coast Guard is expanding the scope of its inspections beyond local markets to include import companies and online retailers.
Authorities intend to thoroughly examine every distribution channel for agricultural and marine products.
A Coast Guard official stated,
“Origin fraud tends to spike every kimchi season, but this year we are determined to put a complete stop to it.
We will do everything possible to establish a distribution environment where residents and consumers can buy kimchi ingredients with confidence.”
Violations carry heavy penalties:
False origin labeling may result in up to seven years in prison or fines of up to 100 million KRW, while failure to label origin may incur fines ranging from 50,000 KRW to 10 million KRW.
This special enforcement campaign is expected to strengthen public trust in Wando’s kimchi-making culture and further improve the safety and integrity of the local food distribution environment.
