The Haenam Office of Education under the Jeonnam–Gwangju Special Metropolitan Government held a training program designed to promote communication and support the physical and mental recovery of school support staff working across the local education sector.
The office held two communication and wellness sessions at the Wando Marine Healing Center on July 24 and 31 for school support staff employed at schools and educational institutions in the Haenam area.
The program was organized to allow participants to share their workplace experiences and challenges while strengthening communication and cooperation among colleagues. It also provided opportunities to relieve fatigue accumulated through their daily duties and restore their physical and mental well-being.
Participants experienced a range of therapeutic programs at the Wando Marine Healing Center using clean marine resources such as seaweed and mud. They also shared their experiences with colleagues performing similar duties, helping them better understand and empathize with one another’s workplace difficulties.
One school administrative staff member who participated in the program said, “Sharing workplace experiences with colleagues who perform similar duties gave me a sense of understanding and comfort. It was a meaningful opportunity to recover both physically and mentally.”
An official from the Haenam Office of Education said, “We plan to continue offering a variety of training programs aimed not only at enhancing the professional capabilities of school support staff but also at promoting a healthy organizational culture and improving employee welfare.”
School support staff are essential members of the education community, assisting students and teaching personnel in areas such as school administration, food services, student care and facility management. The program should therefore extend beyond a one-time wellness experience and lead to practical follow-up measures, including reduced workloads, improved working conditions and the incorporation of feedback from employees in different occupational groups.
