완도소방서(서장 이민석)는 2월 23일, 최민철 신임 전남소방본부장이 취임 후 첫 공식 초도 순시지로 완도소방서를 방문해 주요 현안을 점검하고 직원들과 소통의 시간을 가졌다고 밝혔다.

이번 방문은 전남 도내에서도 도서 지역이 많아 재난 대응 여건이 특수한 완도를 첫 현장 방문지로 선택했다는 점에서 의미가 남다르다.

계절 변화와 해양 기상 여건 등 복합적 재난 위험 요소가 상존하는 지역 특성을 고려해, 현장 대응 체계를 직접 확인하겠다는 ‘현장 중심 경영’ 의지가 반영된 행보다.

이날 최 본부장은 이민석 완도소방서장으로부터 주요업무 추진사항, 관내 화재 취약 대상 및 예방 대책, 재난 대응체계 운영 현황, 현장 대응 역량 강화 추진사항, 지역 민원 및 주요 현안 등에 대한 보고를 받았다.

이어 관내 안전관리 실태와 대응 여건을 종합적으로 점검하며, 도서 지역 특성에 맞춘 선제적 대응 전략을 강조했다.

보고 이후에는 119안전센터 등 주요 현장 부서를 순회하며 장비 운영 실태와 근무 환경을 살폈다. 특히 직원들과의 간담회 자리에서는 출·퇴근 거리로 인한 근무 애로사항 등 실질적 고충을 직접 청취하며 조직 운영 개선 방안에 대한 의견을 나눴다.

최민철 본부장은 “군민의 일상 안전은 철저한 예방과 신속한 대응, 빈틈없는 대비에서 시작된다.”며 “현장 점검과 소통을 통해 위험 요소를 선제적으로 줄이고, 예방·대응·대비 체계를 더욱 촘촘히 구축해 군민이 안심할 수 있도록 최선을 다해달라”고 당부했다.

이어 “활력 있는 조직 분위기 속에서 직원들이 자긍심을 갖고 일할 수 있도록 현장의 목소리를 계속 듣겠다.”고 밝혔다.

이에 이민석 완도소방서장은 “취임 후 첫 순시지로 완도를 찾아 직원들을 격려해 주신 데 깊이 감사드린다.”며 “완도 지역 특성을 반영한 고도화된 대응 역량을 바탕으로 군민의 생명과 재산을 보호하는 데 모든 역량을 집중하겠다.”고 화답했다.

완도소방서는 이번 초도 순시에서 논의된 사항을 토대로 화재 취약 대상 점검과 생활 안전 홍보를 확대하고, 현장 대응력을 한층 강화해 군민이 체감할 수 있는 고품격 안전 서비스를 제공해 나갈 방침이다.

“He Chose Island-Clustered Wando First”… Jeonnam Fire Headquarters Chief Choi Min-cheol Begins On-Site Leadership in Wando
The Wando Fire Station (Chief Lee Min-seok) announced that on February 23, Choi Min-cheol, the newly appointed Chief of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, visited the Wando Fire Station as his first official inspection site following his inauguration, where he reviewed key issues and met with staff members.
The visit carries particular significance as Wando, a region with numerous islands and unique disaster response conditions, was selected as his first field destination within South Jeolla Province.
Considering the region’s complex disaster risk factors—including seasonal changes and maritime weather conditions—the visit reflects Chief Choi’s commitment to “field-centered management” and his intention to directly assess on-site response systems.
During the visit, Chief Choi received a comprehensive briefing from Wando Fire Station Chief Lee Min-seok on major operational initiatives, fire-vulnerable facilities and preventive measures within the jurisdiction, the status of the disaster response system, efforts to strengthen on-site response capabilities, and local civil complaints and pending issues.
He then conducted an overall inspection of safety management conditions and response capabilities in the region, emphasizing proactive response strategies tailored to the unique characteristics of island communities.
Following the briefing, Chief Choi toured major field units, including 119 Safety Centers, to review equipment operations and working conditions. During a meeting with personnel, he listened directly to practical concerns such as commuting difficulties caused by long travel distances, and discussed possible improvements to organizational operations.
Chief Choi stated, “The everyday safety of residents begins with thorough prevention, rapid response, and meticulous preparedness. Through on-site inspections and communication, we must proactively reduce risk factors and further strengthen our prevention, response, and preparedness systems so that residents can feel secure.”
He added, “I will continue to listen to the voices of the field so that our personnel can work with pride in an energetic and positive organizational environment.”
In response, Chief Lee Min-seok expressed his appreciation, saying, “We are deeply grateful that the Chief chose Wando as his first inspection site after taking office. Based on enhanced response capabilities that reflect Wando’s regional characteristics, we will devote all our efforts to protecting the lives and property of our residents.”
The Wando Fire Station plans to expand inspections of fire-vulnerable facilities and strengthen public safety awareness campaigns based on discussions from this initial visit, while further enhancing field response capabilities to deliver high-quality safety services that residents can truly experience.
