세계의 시선이 해남에… ‘2025 LPGA BMW 레이디스 챔피언십’ 성황리 폐막

‘2025 BMW 레이디스 챔피언십’ 해남대회가 나흘간 6만여 명의 갤러리가 운집한 가운데, 전 세계의 이목 속에 성황리에 막을 내렸다.

국내 유일의 LPGA 정규투어인 이번 대회는 10월 16일부터 19일까지 해남군 화원면 파인비치 골프링크스에서 열렸다.

전년도 챔피언 한나 그린을 비롯해 이민지(호주), 김효주, 유해란, 루키 포인트 1위 야마시타 미유 등 세계 정상급 78명의 선수가 참가해 우승상금 34만 5천 달러(약 4억 9천만 원)를 놓고 명품 승부를 펼쳤다.

컷오프 없이 72홀 스트로크 방식으로 치러진 이번 대회는 궂은 날씨에도 불구하고 풍성한 장면을 연출했다.

특히 미국의 루시 리 선수가 13번 홀에서 홀인원을 성공시키며 대회 분위기를 끌어올렸다.

최종 라운드에서는 한국의 김세영 선수가 24언더파 264타를 기록하며 하타오카 나사(20언더파)를 4타 차로 제치고 우승컵을 들어올렸다.

김아림이 공동 3위, 노예림이 공동 5위에 올랐으며, 한국 선수들이 상위권을 휩쓸어 갤러리들의 큰 환호를 받았다.

세계 170여 개국, 5억 7천만 가구에 중계된 이번 대회를 통해 해남은 전 세계 시청자들에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다.

해남군은 경기 기간 총 6만 599명의 입장객과 60억 원 이상의 경제 파급효과를 거둔 것으로 분석했다.

마지막 날에는 하루에만 3만 명 이상의 관람객이 몰리며 호남권 최초 LPGA 대회의 흥행 가능성을 입증했다.

대회 운영 역시 호평을 받았다.

해남군은 범 군민 준비 위원회를 중심으로 교통·안전·의료·환경 등 분야별 사전 점검을 완료했고, 2,000석 규모의 임시주차장과 셔틀버스를 운영해 교통 혼잡을 최소화했다.

경기장 입구에 마련된 해남 홍보관도 관람객들로부터 큰 관심을 받으며 지역 브랜드 가치 제고에 힘을 보탰다.

명현관 해남군수는 “세계적인 대회가 해남에서 열려 군민과 함께 큰 역사 한 페이지를 완성했다”며 “이번 대회를 계기로 해남이 전 세계인이 다시 찾는 스포츠·문화 도시로 도약하길 기대한다.”고 소감을 밝혔다.

The 2025 BMW Ladies Championship in Haenam came to a successful close, drawing more than 60,000 spectators over four days and capturing worldwide attention.
The only LPGA Tour event held in Korea, the tournament took place from October 16 to 19 at Pine Beach Golf Links in Hwawon-myeon, Haenam County. A total of 78 world-class players— including defending champion Hannah Green, Minjee Lee (Australia), Hyo Joo Kim, Hae Ran Ryu, and Rookie of the Year points leader Miu Yamashita — competed for a winner’s purse of USD 345,000 (approx. KRW 490 million).
Despite intermittent rain, the 72-hole, no-cut stroke-play event delivered plenty of excitement. Notably, Lucy Li of the United States scored a hole-in-one on the 13th hole, igniting enthusiasm among fans.
In the final round, Korea’s Kim Sei-young captured the championship title with a 24-under-par 264, finishing four strokes ahead of Japan’s Nasa Hataoka (20-under). Kim A-rim tied for 3rd, and Noh Ye-rim finished in a tie for 5th, marking a strong showing for Korean players and thrilling domestic fans.
The tournament was broadcast to approximately 570 million households in 170 countries, offering a prime opportunity to showcase Haenam to a global audience. Haenam County estimated a total of 60,599 spectators and more than KRW 6 billion (USD 4.3 million) in economic ripple effects during the event. On the final day alone, over 30,000 fans flooded the course, confirming the tournament’s tremendous popularity — the first LPGA event ever held in Korea’s Honam region.
Event operations also received high praise. The county government, working through a citizen-led organizing committee, carried out thorough pre-event inspections across transportation, safety, medical support, and environmental management. To ease congestion, 2,000 temporary parking spaces and shuttle bus services were provided, ensuring smooth and safe movement for spectators. A promotional exhibition hall at the venue further boosted the visibility and brand value of Haenam.
Haenam County Mayor Myeong Hyeon-gwan stated,
“Hosting this world-class tournament in Haenam allowed us to create a historic moment together with our citizens. We hope this event will be remembered as a milestone that propels Haenam into a beloved global destination for sports and culture, and we look forward to welcoming the world back again.”
