“그대 언 살이 터져 시가 빛날 때”… 해남, 송기원 정신을 다시 깨우다

해남군 땅끝순례문학관이 시대의 고통과 구도의 여정을 문학으로 승화시킨 故 송기원 작가를 기리는 1주기 특별전을 마련했다.

생의 마지막 5년을 해남에서 보내며 문학과 수행의 길을 하나로 잇고자 했던 작가의 발자취를 따라가는 뜻깊은 자리다.

이번 전시는 「그대 언 살이 터져 시가 빛날 때」라는 주제로, 11월 21일부터 2026년 3월 31일까지 문학관 기획전시실에서 열린다.

작가의 습작 노트, 옥중 서신, 미공개 사진 자료 등 그동안 볼 수 없었던 귀중한 자료들이 다채롭게 공개되며, 인간 송기원의 치열한 삶과 문학적 사유가 입체적으로 조명된다.

개막일 오후 4시에는 유족과 동료 문인들이 참여하는 문학 토크·낭송·시 노래 공연이 이어져, 작가와 나눈 인연과 기억들을 통한 따뜻한 추모의 시간이 펼쳐질 예정이다.

송기원 작가는 1974년 시 「회복기의 노래」와 소설 「경외성서」로 문단에 동시 등단해 강렬한 존재감을 드러냈다.

이후 현실 참여와 수행의 길을 넘나들며 독자적 문학 세계를 형성했고, 시집 『저녁』, 『단 한 번 보지 못한 내 꽃들』, 명상소설 『숨』, 청소년소설 『누나』 등 굵직한 작품을 남겼다.

군 관계자는 “송기원 작가는 생의 마지막까지 해남에서 문학과 수행을 일치시키려 했던 드문 작가였다”며 “이번 특별전은 작품을 넘어 인간 송기원의 전 생애를 느낄 수 있는 소중한 시간이 될 것”이라고 전했다.

땅끝에서 마주하는 그의 문학은 여전히 따뜻하고, 여전히 날카롭고, 여전히 살아 있다.

Dangeut Sunrae Literature Museum Holds 1st Anniversary Memorial Exhibition
The Dangeut Sunrae Literature Museum in Haenam is hosting a first-anniversary memorial exhibition honoring the late writer Song Gi-won, who transformed the pain of his era and the quest for enlightenment into literature.
The exhibition reflects on the final five years the writer spent in Haenam—years in which he sought to merge literature and spiritual practice—and offers a meaningful opportunity to follow the footsteps of his final journey.
Titled “When Your Frozen Flesh Cracks and Poetry Shines Again,” the exhibition runs from November 21 to March 31, 2026 in the museum’s special exhibition hall.
On display are a wide range of rare materials, including the writer’s early practice notebooks, letters written from prison, and previously unpublished photographs, providing an in-depth look into Song’s intense life and the depth of his literary contemplation.
A special opening program will be held at 4 p.m. on the first day, featuring a literary talk, live poetry readings, and poetry-based musical performances by family members and fellow writers sharing stories and memories of the late author.
Song Gi-won made a striking debut in 1974, entering the literary world simultaneously with his poem “Song of Recovery” and the short story “Reverence Scripture.”
He later forged a unique literary realm, moving between social engagement and spiritual discipline. His major works include the poetry collections Evening and Flowers I Have Never Seen Even Once, the meditation novel Breath, and the youth novel Nuna.
A county official noted,
“Song Gi-won was one of the rare writers who sought to unify literature and spiritual practice until the very end of his life in Haenam. This exhibition will be a valuable opportunity to encounter not only his works but the entirety of his life as a human being.”
At the land’s end—Dangeut—his literature remains: still warm, still sharp, and still alive.
