진도군이 폐현수막을 활용한 ‘새활용 행사’를 통해 환경 보호와 탄소중립 실천에 앞장서고 있다.

진도군은 지난 명량대첩 축제에서 폐현수막 위에 그림을 그리는 체험 행사를 시작으로, 지난 10월 16일 고군면 가계 해변에서는 폐현수막으로 만든 마대를 활용해 해안가 쓰레기를 수거하는 활동을 진행했다.

이어 10월 18일 철마공원에서는 ‘자전거 타기와 함께하는 탄소중립 실천 행사’를 열어 주민들의 참여를 유도했다.

이번 행사는 ‘2025년 폐현수막 새활용 계획’의 일환으로, 매년 버려지는 현수막을 재활용하여 주민과 함께 환경보호와 탄소중립의 중요성을 알리기 위해 기획됐다.

진도군은 11월 중 ‘함께 그늘, 함께 그린’을 주제로 폐현수막으로 제작한 우산 전시와 그림 그리기 체험 행사를 추진할 예정이다.

또한 올해 제작된 작품들은 ‘옥주골 창작소’와 ‘옥주골 어울림센터’에서 전시될 계획이다.

진도군 도시개발과 관계자는 “기후 위기에 대응하기 위해 폐현수막을 활용한 다양한 활동을 이어가며, 생활 속에서 탄소중립을 실천하는 데 앞장서겠다.”고 밝혔다.

“Discarded Banners Turn into Environmental Guardians”: Jindo County Promotes Carbon Neutrality through Upcycling Events
Jindo County is taking the lead in environmental protection and carbon neutrality by holding upcycling events that repurpose discarded banners.
The county kicked off the initiative during the Myeongnyang Victory Festival with a hands-on activity where participants painted on used banners. On October 16, at Gage Beach in Gogeun-myeon, residents collected coastal litter using sacks made from recycled banners.
Following this, on October 18, a “Carbon Neutrality in Action: Cycling Event” was held at Cheolma Park, encouraging community participation.
These activities are part of the “2025 Upcycling Plan for Discarded Banners,” aimed at raising awareness about environmental protection and carbon neutrality while creatively reusing banners that would otherwise be thrown away.
In November, Jindo County plans to hold a painting workshop and an exhibition of umbrellas made from recycled banners under the theme “Shading Together, Coloring Together.” This year’s creations will also be displayed at the Okjugol Creative Studio and the Okjugol Community Center.
A county official from the Urban Development Division stated, “We will continue various activities using discarded banners to respond to the climate crisis and lead the way in practicing carbon neutrality in our daily lives.”
