해남군 소아청소년과 야간진료 ‘든든한 안전망’… 인근 군까지 혜택 확산

“밤에도 아이 아플 걱정 덜었어요.”
해남군이 군비 전액을 투입해 운영 중인 소아청소년과 야간진료 사업이 큰 호응을 얻고 있다.

해남군은 지난 2023년부터 소아 응급 의료 사각지대를 해소하기 위해 소아청소년과 야간진료를 지원하고 있다. 특히 응급 상황이 잦은 소아 진료 특성을 고려해 정규 진료 이후에도 전문의와 전담 간호사가 상주하도록 운영비와 의료 인력을 지원하고 있다.

야간진료는 해남종합병원 소아청소년과에서 실시 중이며, 일요일과 공휴일을 제외한 평일은 밤 12시까지, 토요일은 오후 1시까지 운영된다.

또한 밤 9시 이후에는 전화 예약 접수도 가능해 지역 주민들에게 편리한 서비스를 제공하고 있다.

그 결과, 해남군민은 물론 인근 강진·완도 주민들까지 혜택을 누리며 지역 거점 병원 역할을 톡톡히 하고 있다.

실제로 올해 7월까지 소아청소년과 외래 환자는 총 1만 4,225명으로, 이 가운데 해남군민이 1만 969명, 타 지역 환자가 3,256명으로 집계됐다.

해남의 의료 서비스가 인근 지역까지 파급 효과를 내고 있는 것이다.

현재 해남군에는 병원급 2곳에서 전문의 4명이 소아청소년과를 운영하고 있으며, 관내 의원급 의료기관 39곳 중 27곳이 소아진료를 보고 있어 지역 의료 인프라가 안정적으로 유지되고 있다.

군 관계자는 “해남군에는 단독 개설된 소아청소년과 의원은 없지만 다양한 의료기관을 통해 진료 공백이 발생하지 않도록 지원하고 있다”며 “앞으로도 군민과 아이들이 안심하고 진료 받을 수 있는 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Haenam’s Pediatric Night Clinic Provides a “Reliable Safety Net” … Benefits Extending to Neighboring Counties
Full funding from the county eliminates medical gaps, over 14,000 patients treated in 7 months

Haenam County’s fully funded pediatric night clinic program is receiving strong positive feedback.
Since 2023, the county has been supporting pediatric night care to eliminate gaps in emergency medical services for children. Recognizing the frequent need for urgent care at night, the program provides funding for operating costs and medical personnel, ensuring that pediatric specialists and dedicated nurses are on duty even after regular clinic hours.
Nighttime pediatric services are currently available at Haenam General Hospital, operating until midnight on weekdays (excluding Sundays and public holidays) and until 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Telephone reservations are also available after 9 p.m., providing added convenience for residents.
As a result, not only Haenam residents but also families from neighboring Gangjin and Wando are benefiting, with the hospital serving as a key regional hub.
In fact, by July this year, the pediatric department had treated a total of 14,225 outpatients — 10,969 from Haenam and 3,256 from outside the county — demonstrating that Haenam’s medical services are improving healthcare access even beyond its borders.
Currently, Haenam County has two hospital-level facilities with four pediatric specialists in practice. In addition, 27 out of 39 local clinics are registered to provide pediatric care, ensuring that basic child healthcare services are widely available across the region.
A county official stated, “Although Haenam does not have independently established pediatric clinics, we are doing our best to prevent any gaps in care through various medical institutions. We will continue our efforts to create an environment where both residents and children can receive care with peace of mind.”
