달콤한 고구마와 청량한 바람, 산이정원에서 만나는 가을 이야기

해남군 산이면 솔라시도에 위치한 전남 최초 정원형 식물원 산이정원이 가을철을 맞아 지역 특산물 고구마를 주제로 한 「제1회 해남 고구마 정원 축제」를 오는 9월 27일(토)과 28일(일) 양일간 개최한다.

이번 행사는 해남의 청정 자연 속에서 먹거리·체험·건강·즐거움을 모두 누릴 수 있는 복합 문화축제로 마련됐다.

특히 국내 최초로 조성된 ‘고구마 정원’을 중심으로 열리는 만큼, 앞으로 해남 가을을 대표하는 지역 축제로 자리 잡을 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.

축제에서는 오감만족 고구마 체험이 펼쳐진다.

고구마 수확 체험, 고구마 꽃 포토존, 고구마빵·고구마라떼·고구마 아이스크림 등 다양한 고구마 디저트 시식, 직거래 장터에서 갓 수확한 산이면 농산물과 고구마 음식을 만나볼 수 있다.

특히 해남 고구마는 풍부한 식이섬유와 포만감을 주는 저칼로리 건강 식품으로, 다이어트 식단에도 적합하다는 점을 적극 알릴 계획이다.

또한 산이정원이 직접 제작한 고구마 캐릭터를 활용한 ‘팝업가든 포토존’, 코티지풍 감성의 ‘고구마 빌리지’가 마련돼 가족, 연인, 친구 등 방문객 모두에게 특별한 휴식과 여유를 제공한다.

해당 팝업가든은 축제 이후에도 10월 31일까지 상시 운영된다.

축제 이틀째인 9월 28일에는 산이정원과 솔라시도 관광레저도시 일대를 잇는 생태·경관 코스를 중심으로 5km, 10km, 하프코스 등 다양한 코스에서 목포MBC 주관 ‘그린스텝 마라톤 대회’도 열린다.

산이정원 관계자는 “해남의 명품 특산물이 고구마임에도 이를 주제로 한 대표 축제가 없었던 점이 늘 아쉬웠다”며 “이번 고구마 축제는 단순한 행사가 아니라 환경과 지역사회에 기여하는 ESG 축제이자, 국내 최초 고구마 생산지 정원에서 새로운 전통을 만드는 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다.

한편, 축제가 열리는 솔라시도는 AI 에너지 신도시로 조성 중인 대규모 민관협력 도시개발 사업지로, 美 명문 RCS 국제학교 유치, 레저·문화가 어우러진 웰니스 주거단지 등 정주 인프라를 확충하고 있다.

산이정원은 사계절 다양한 매력을 지닌 테마정원과 문화·교육 프로그램을 운영하며 방문객들에게 지속적인 즐거움과 자연 속 특별한 경험을 제공하고 있다.

Sweet Sweet Potatoes and Refreshing Autumn Breeze — A Fall Story at Sani Garden
― Jeollanam-do’s first garden-style botanical park, Sani Garden, to host the 1st Haenam Sweet Potato Garden Festival ―
Sani Garden, located in Solaseado, Sani-myeon, Haenam County, will host the “1st Haenam Sweet Potato Garden Festival” on September 27 (Sat) and 28 (Sun), highlighting the region’s signature specialty crop, the sweet potato.
The event is organized as a comprehensive cultural festival, combining food, hands-on experiences, health, and entertainment in Haenam’s pristine natural environment. With Korea’s first “Sweet Potato Garden” as its centerpiece, the festival is expected to grow into Haenam’s signature autumn event in the years ahead.
The festival will feature a wide range of sweet potato-themed experiences:
Sweet potato harvesting programs
A sweet potato flower photo zone
Tastings of sweet potato bread, lattes, ice cream, and other desserts
A farmers’ market with freshly harvested local produce and sweet potato-based foods
Haenam sweet potatoes will be promoted not only as a regional delicacy but also as a healthy, low-calorie food rich in dietary fiber, well-suited for weight management and diet-conscious lifestyles.
Visitors will also enjoy special attractions such as a “Pop-up Garden Photo Zone” featuring sweet potato character installations, and a cozy “Sweet Potato Village” designed with cottage-style aesthetics, offering rest and relaxation for families, couples, and friends. The pop-up garden will remain open through October 31, even after the festival concludes.
On September 28, the second day of the festival, the Green Step Marathon, organized by Mokpo MBC, will take place along ecological and scenic courses connecting Sani Garden with the Solaseado Tourism and Leisure City. Courses include 5km, 10km, and half-marathon distances.
A Sani Garden official stated, “Although Haenam sweet potatoes are a premium local specialty, there has never been a representative festival dedicated to them. This festival will not only be a celebration of our harvest but also an ESG-focused event contributing to the environment and community, creating a new tradition at Korea’s first sweet potato garden.”
Meanwhile, Solaseado is a large-scale public-private urban development project currently being built as an AI-powered energy city. It is expanding residential infrastructure by attracting the prestigious RCS International School from the U.S., as well as developing wellness complexes that combine leisure and culture. Through Sani Garden, the city continues to offer seasonal attractions, themed gardens, and cultural and educational programs, providing visitors with lasting joy and unique experiences in nature.
