진도군이 지역사회 감염병 예방과 군민 건강 증진을 위해 ‘C형 간염 퇴치사업’을 본격 추진한다.

군은 올해 상반기 임회면을 대상으로 성인을 대상으로 한 ‘C형 간염 항체 검사’를 시행했으며, 감염이 확인된 주민 26명의 치료비를 전액 지원했다.

이번 검진은 임회면 20세 이상 주민 1,369명을 대상으로 진행됐으며, 양성 판정을 받은 26명은 정밀 진단 후 전문 의료기관에서 치료를 받고 있다.

C형 간염은 C형 간염 바이러스(HCV) 감염으로 발생하며, 대부분 감염된 혈액을 통해 전파된다.

주요 감염 경로로는 비위생적인 주사기 재사용, 문신, 피어싱 등 신체 장식 시 오염된 기구 사용, 감염된 혈액 수혈 등이 있다.

예방을 위해서는 일회용 주사기 사용, 개인위생 철저, 의료기관 및 시술소 기구 멸균 여부 확인, 감염자와의 면도기, 칫솔 등 공용물품 사용 금지 등이 중요하다.

특히 C형 간염은 초기 증상이 거의 없어 조기 검진이 필수적이며, 현재는 치료제를 통한 완치가 가능한 질환으로 분류된다.

진도군은 2024~2025년 고군면과 임회면에서 시범사업을 추진한 결과를 토대로, 2026년부터 지산면을 시작으로 향후 5년 동안 군 전 지역으로 ‘지역주도형 C형 간염 퇴치사업’을 확대할 계획이다.

군 보건소 관계자는 “C형 간염은 조기에 발견하면 완치가 가능하므로 정기 검진과 조기 치료가 매우 중요하다”며, “앞으로도 군민 모두가 건강하게 생활할 수 있도록 감염병 예방 사업을 지속적으로 추진하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Jindo County is taking proactive steps to prevent community infectious diseases and promote residents’ health by fully implementing the “Hepatitis C Eradication Program.”
In the first half of this year, the county conducted Hepatitis C antibody tests targeting adults in Imhoe-myeon, providing full treatment costs for 26 residents who tested positive for the infection.
The screening was carried out for 1,369 residents aged 20 and over in Imhoe-myeon. Those who tested positive received a detailed diagnosis and are undergoing treatment at specialized medical institutions.
Hepatitis C is caused by the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and is mainly transmitted through infected blood.
Key transmission routes include the reuse of unsterilized syringes, contaminated tools during tattoos, piercings, or other body decorations, and blood transfusions with infected blood.
Prevention measures include using disposable syringes, maintaining personal hygiene, verifying the sterilization of instruments at medical and cosmetic facilities, and avoiding sharing items such as razors and toothbrushes with infected individuals.
Hepatitis C often shows no early symptoms, making early screening crucial. Fortunately, it is currently classified as a curable disease with available antiviral treatments.
Based on pilot projects conducted in Gogun-myeon and Imhoe-myeon from 2024 to 2025, Jindo County plans to expand the community-led Hepatitis C Eradication Program to the entire county over the next five years, starting with Jisan-myeon in 2026.
A county health center official stated, “Hepatitis C can be completely cured if detected early, so regular screening and timely treatment are extremely important. We will continue to implement infectious disease prevention initiatives to ensure that all residents can live healthy lives.”
