진도군이 국토교통부가 주관한 ‘스마트 복합쉼터 조성사업’ 공모에서 최종 선정되는 성과를 거뒀다.

이번 사업은 중앙정부와 지방자치단체가 협력해 첨단 기술과 친환경 인프라를 접목한 복합형 휴게쉼터를 국도변에 조성하는 프로젝트로, 이용객들에게 휴식·문화·체험이 어우러진 복합 공간을 제공하기 위해 추진된다.

사전 심사와 발표 평가를 거쳐 전국에서 단 5개 지역만이 최종 선정됐으며, 진도군은 그 중 하나로 이름을 올렸다.

군은 총사업비 31억 원을 투입해 국도 18호선 임회면 신동리 인근 약 7,628㎡ 부지에 오는 2026년부터 ‘스마트 복합쉼터’ 조성에 착수할 계획이다.

조성될 스마트 복합쉼터에는 실시간 주차 안내 시스템, 전기차 충전시설, 태양광 그늘막 등 스마트 기술과 친환경 에너지가 결합된 첨단 쉼터 시설이 구축된다.

또한 ‘키오스크’를 통한 관광 정보 제공, 지역 농특산물 판매장 운영, 문화해설 프로그램 등도 함께 운영해, 진도의 관광·문화자원과 연계한 체험형 휴식공간으로 자리 잡을 전망이다.

김희수 진도군수는 “스마트 복합쉼터는 단순한 휴게공간을 넘어 진도의 매력을 체감할 수 있는 새로운 지역 랜드마크가 될 것”이라며, “앞으로도 교통 인프라를 확충하고, 관광과 지역경제가 함께 성장할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Jindo County has been selected for the “Smart Multi-Rest Area Development Project” organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, achieving another milestone in regional innovation.
This project is a joint initiative between the central government and local governments to build multi-functional rest areas along national highways that combine advanced technology and eco-friendly infrastructure, providing travelers with spaces that integrate rest, culture, and experience.
Following a preliminary review and presentation evaluation, only five regions nationwide were finally selected, with Jindo County among the successful candidates.
The county plans to invest a total of 3.1 billion KRW to construct the Smart Multi-Rest Area on a 7,628㎡ site near Sindong-ri, Imhoe-myeon, along National Route 18, starting in 2026.
The new rest area will feature smart technologies and sustainable energy facilities, including a real-time parking guidance system, electric vehicle charging stations, and solar-powered shading structures.
In addition, interactive kiosks will provide tourist information, while local specialty product shops and cultural interpretation programs will be operated, creating an experiential rest area that connects Jindo’s tourism and cultural assets.
Jindo County Mayor Kim Hee-soo stated, “The Smart Multi-Rest Area will go beyond being just a rest stop — it will become a new regional landmark where visitors can truly experience the charm of Jindo.”
He added, “We will continue to expand our transportation infrastructure and promote the joint growth of tourism and the local economy.”
