진도군은 최근 진도군청 대회의실에서 ‘진도 고속철도 국가계획 반영을 위한 범군민 결의대회’를 성황리에 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 진도고속철도추진위원회가 주관했으며, 위원들과 기관 단체장, 군민 등 약 300명이 참석했다.

참석자들은 결의문을 통해 “진도군은 제주도와의 최단 항로이자 육상과 해상을 연계한 교통 구축의 최적지”라며, 전라남도가 국토교통부에 진도군 고속철도의 국가계획 반영을 건의하고, 정부가 지역 균형발전을 위한 교통 기반 시설을 확충할 것을 촉구했다.

결의문은 김희수 진도군수, 박금례 진도군의회 의장, 박종온 공동추진위원장에게 전달됐다.

이날 조난영 진도군여성단체협의회장은 진도군의 어머니들을 대표해 이재명 대통령에게 보내는 편지를 낭독, “미래세대가 교통의 한계로 불리한 출발선에 서지 않도록 고속철도를 연결해 달라”는 염원을 전해 참석자들의 깊은 공감을 얻었다.

박종온 공동추진위원장은 “국토교통부가 제5차 국가철도망 구축계획을 수립하는 과정에서 모든 지방자치단체에 건의 기회를 부여했음에도 진도군의 건의서는 전달되지 않았다”며, “호남고속철도 진도군 연장 방안이 반드시 이행될 수 있도록 군민 모두가 뜻을 모아야 한다.”고 강조했다.

김희수 진도군수는 격려사에서 “세월호 참사 당시 상주의 역할을 감당하고, 제주도의 전력난 해소를 위한 초고압 해저 송전선 설치 과정에서도 많은 희생을 감내했지만, 현재 진도는 교통의 한계와 지방 소멸 위기에 직면해 있다.”며, “대통령이 강조한 ‘특별한 희생에는 특별한 보상’ 원칙이 실현돼 진도 고속철도가 국가 계획에 반드시 반영되길 바란다.”고 밝혔다.

진도고속철도추진위원회는 이번 결의대회를 시작으로 전라남도 방문을 통한 추가 건의, 학생 참여 글짓기·그림·손편지 전달, 서명부 제출, 전국적 홍보활동 등 다양한 범 군민 운동을 이어가며 국가철도망 반영을 위한 노력을 지속할 계획이다.

Jindo High-Speed Rail: Community Rally Urges Inclusion in National Plan
Over 300 Jindo Residents Unite to Support High-Speed Rail Project

Jindo County recently held a “Community Rally for the Inclusion of Jindo High-Speed Rail in the National Plan” at the Jindo County Hall, drawing strong participation and support.
The event, organized by the Jindo High-Speed Rail Promotion Committee, was attended by approximately 300 participants, including committee members, local officials, and residents.
During the rally, attendees adopted a resolution emphasizing that “Jindo County is the shortest route to Jeju Island and the optimal location for integrated land and sea transportation.” The resolution called on Jeollanam-do to submit Jindo’s high-speed rail proposal to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport and urged the government to expand transportation infrastructure to promote balanced regional development.
The resolution was delivered to Jindo County Mayor Hee-su Kim, Jindo County Council Chair Geum-rye Park, and Joint Promotion Committee Chair Jong-on Park.
At the rally, Na-young Cho, representing the Jindo County Women’s Association, read a letter addressed to President Lee Jae-myung on behalf of the mothers of Jindo, appealing for a high-speed rail connection so that future generations would not start from a disadvantaged position due to transportation limitations. Her message resonated deeply with the audience.
Joint Promotion Committee Chair Jong-on Park expressed regret that “although all local governments were given the opportunity to submit proposals during the development of the 5th National Railroad Network Plan, Jindo’s proposal was not delivered,” and stressed that “all residents must unite to ensure the extension of the Honam High-Speed Rail to Jindo is realized.”
Mayor Hee-su Kim encouraged participants by stating, “Jindo residents have shouldered responsibilities during tragedies such as the Sewol ferry disaster and contributed to installing high-voltage undersea transmission lines to address Jeju’s power shortages. Yet today, Jindo faces transportation limitations and the threat of regional decline.” He added, “The principle that ‘special sacrifices deserve special compensation,’ emphasized by the President, must be realized, and Jindo High-Speed Rail should be included in the national plan as a model for balanced regional development.”
The Jindo High-Speed Rail Promotion Committee plans to continue its nationwide campaign, including additional requests to Jeollanam-do, student participation projects such as essays, drawings, and letters to the President, submission of petition signatures, and other public awareness activities, to secure the inclusion of Jindo in the national rail network.
