해남군, “노쇼 사기 피해 주의하세요”

해남군은 최근 관내 음식점들을 대상으로 ‘노쇼(NO-Show) 사기’ 피해가 잇따르고 있어 지역 업주들에게 각별한 주의를 당부했다.

노쇼 사기란 고객을 사칭해 예약을 잡아놓고 실제로 나타나지 않는 수법으로, 최근 해남읍 소재 음식점에서 00병원 의사를 사칭한 사례가 발생했다.

범인은 위조 명함과 문자메시지를 활용해 단체 손님 예약과 고가 주류 주문을 진행한 뒤, 주류 대금을 송금 받고 예약 당일 나타나지 않아 업주가 수백만 원의 피해를 입었다.

비슷한 수법으로 연예인 매니저를 사칭해 “연예인 ○○○이 해남에서 촬영을 했으며, 고급 와인만 마신다.”라며 특정 주류를 요구해 수백만 원대 주류 대금을 입금 받고 잠적한 사건도 있었다.

또한 군청 공무원이나 군부대 관계자를 사칭해 공식 공문을 위조하고, 10명 이상의 대규모 단체 예약을 한 뒤 당일 불참하는 사례도 확인됐다.

이들 사기범은 실제 기관 로고와 직인을 위조한 공문·명함·문자를 이용해 신뢰를 얻고, 장기간 예약과 현금 결제를 고집하는 방식으로 업주들의 경계심을 무너뜨리는 특징이 있다.

특히 예약 날짜를 촉박하게 잡아 업주가 사실 확인을 할 수 있는 시간을 의도적으로 줄이고 있는 것으로 드러났다.

이에 해남군은 경찰 등 유관 기관과 협력해 ‘노쇼 사기 예방 합동 활동’을 전개하고 있으며, 피해 사례 확산을 막기 위해 홍보물을 제작·배포하는 등 적극적인 대응에 나서고 있다.

군은 업주들에게 기관 예약은 반드시 대표 번호로 재확인, 걸려온 번호로 다시 전화하지 말 것(번호 조작 가능성), 과도한 인원·장기간 예약·현금 결제 요구 주의, 예약금 일부 선입금 권장 등을 당부했다.

군 관계자는 “노쇼 사기 피해는 지역 음식점 업주들의 생업과 신뢰를 무너뜨리는 심각한 범죄행위”라며 “군은 앞으로도 관계기관과 함께 예방 활동을 지속 추진해 피해 최소화에 나서겠다.”고 밝혔다.

Haenam County Warns Against “No-Show” Scams
― Surge in cases involving fake doctors, celebrity managers, and government officials; county launches special prevention campaign ―
Haenam County has urged local business owners to remain vigilant as cases of “No-Show” scams targeting restaurants in the area have recently been reported.
A “No-Show” scam involves making reservations under false pretenses and then failing to appear. In one recent case at a restaurant in Haenam-eup, a scammer posed as a doctor from 00 Hospital, using a forged business card and text messages to book a group reservation and order expensive liquor. The scammer received payment for the liquor in advance but never showed up on the reservation date, leaving the restaurant owner with losses of several million won.
In another case, a fraudster impersonated a celebrity manager, claiming that “Celebrity ○○○ is in Haenam for filming and only drinks premium wine,” convincing a supplier to deliver high-priced liquor worth several million won before disappearing.
There have also been incidents where scammers impersonated county officials or military personnel, forging official documents to arrange group reservations for more than ten people, only to cancel by failing to appear on the day.
These criminals typically use forged official letters, business cards, and text messages with logos and seals of real institutions to gain trust. They often insist on large-scale or long-term reservations with cash payments, while also deliberately setting tight deadlines to reduce the time available for verification by restaurant owners.
In response, Haenam County, in cooperation with the police and other related agencies, has launched a joint prevention campaign and is actively distributing informational materials to prevent further damage.
The county advises business owners to:
Always verify institutional reservations through official representative phone numbers.
Avoid calling back numbers provided by the caller (as caller ID may be spoofed).
Be cautious with unusually large, long-term reservations or requests for cash payments.
Request a partial deposit in advance, if necessary, to reduce risk.
A county official stated, “No-Show scams are a serious criminal act that undermines the trust and livelihoods of local restaurant owners. Haenam County will continue working with relevant institutions to strengthen prevention efforts and minimize damages.”
