추석 명절을 앞두고 많은 주민과 이용객이 찾을 것으로 예상되는 해남지역 전통시장에 화재 발생 초기 누구나 신속하게 사용할 수 있는 소화기함이 설치됐다.

해남소방서(서장 정형중)는 지난 7일 전통시장 화재 예방과 초기 대응능력 강화를 위해 땅끝송지장에 ‘보이는 소화기함’을 설치하고 화재안전망 구축에 나섰다​고 밝혔다.

‘보이는 소화기함’은 화재가 발생했을 때 시장 상인이나 이용객 누구나 소화기의 위치를 쉽게 확인하고 신속하게 사용할 수 있도록 눈에 잘 띄는 장소에 소화기를 비치하는 시설이다.

특히 전통시장은 점포가 밀집해 있고 화재가 발생할 경우 주변 점포로 빠르게 번질 우려가 있는 만큼 소방대가 도착하기 전 초기 진화가 무엇보다 중요하다.

해남소방서는 이러한 전통시장의 특성을 고려해 시장 주요 통행로와 점포 밀집지역 등 화재 발생 시 신속한 초기 대응이 필요한 장소를 중심으로 소화기함을 설치했다.

이날 행사에는 박성재 전남광주통합시의회 행정소방위원회 위원장을 비롯해 상인회장과 주요 유관기관 관계자들이 참석해 전통시장 화재 예방과 안전관리의 중요성을 공유했다.

해남소방서는 소화기함을 설치하는 데 그치지 않고 시장 관계자들을 대상으로 실질적인 초기 화재 대응교육도 실시했다.

교육에서는 ▲보이는 소화기함 설치 취지와 활용방법 ▲소화기 사용법 ▲화재 발생 시 초기 대응요령 ▲소화기 작동 순서 등을 설명하고 직접 현장 시연을 진행해 상인들의 화재 대응능력을 높였다.

특히 불특정 다수가 이용하는 전통시장에서 화재가 발생할 경우 초기 몇 분 동안의 대응이 대형화재 확산 여부를 좌우할 수 있다는 점에서 이번 소화기함 설치가 시장의 생활밀착형 안전시설 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

박성재 전남광주통합시의회 행정소방위원회 위원장은 “전통시장 화재 예방에는 평소 안전에 대한 관심과 초기 대응체계를 마련하는 것이 중요하다”며 “보이는 소화기함 설치를 계기로 상인과 이용객 모두가 안전에 더욱 관심을 갖고 화재 예방에 동참해 주길 바란다.”고 말했다.

해남소방서는 추석을 앞두고 전통시장을 비롯한 화재 취약시설에 대한 예방활동을 강화하는 한편, 주민들이 일상생활 속에서 소방시설을 쉽게 활용할 수 있도록 현장 중심의 화재안전 대책을 지속적으로 추진할 방침이다.

Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, visible fire extinguisher boxes have been installed at a traditional market in Haenam to enable merchants and visitors to respond quickly in the critical early stages of a fire.
The Haenam Fire Station, headed by Chief Jeong Hyeong-jung, announced that it installed “Visible Fire Extinguisher Boxes” at Ttangkkeut Songji Market on September 7 as part of efforts to strengthen fire prevention and establish a more comprehensive safety network at traditional markets.
The visible fire extinguisher boxes are designed to make extinguishers easy to locate and access, allowing merchants and visitors to respond immediately when a fire breaks out.
Traditional markets are particularly vulnerable to rapidly spreading fires because shops are often located close together. For this reason, extinguishing a fire before firefighters arrive can be crucial in preventing a small incident from developing into a major blaze.
Taking these characteristics into consideration, the Haenam Fire Station placed the extinguisher boxes along major market walkways, in densely concentrated shop areas, and at other locations where rapid initial response may be necessary.
The installation event was attended by Park Seong-jae, Chair of the Administrative and Fire Safety Committee of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan Council, as well as the head of the merchants’ association and representatives from related organizations. Participants emphasized the importance of fire prevention and safety management at traditional markets.
In addition to installing the extinguisher boxes, the Haenam Fire Station provided practical fire-response training for market merchants and other participants.
The training covered the purpose and proper use of the visible fire extinguisher boxes, how to operate a fire extinguisher, appropriate initial response procedures in the event of a fire, and a step-by-step demonstration of extinguisher operation.
Because traditional markets are frequented by large numbers of people, actions taken during the first few minutes of a fire can determine whether it is contained or spreads into a larger disaster. The newly installed extinguisher boxes are therefore expected to serve as an accessible, community-based fire safety measure.
“Preventing fires at traditional markets requires continuous attention to safety and a well-prepared initial response system,” Park said. “I hope the installation of these visible fire extinguisher boxes will encourage both merchants and visitors to take a greater interest in safety and actively participate in fire prevention.”
Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the Haenam Fire Station plans to further strengthen fire-prevention activities at traditional markets and other fire-vulnerable facilities, while continuing to implement field-oriented safety measures that make firefighting equipment more accessible to local residents.
