전남광주통합특별시 소방본부가 화재 발생 시 대규모 인명·재산 피해가 우려되는 대형 사업장을 대상으로 화재안전 현장 지도점검에 나섰다.
전남광주소방본부는 18일부터 21일까지 나흘간 기아 오토랜드 광주와 반도체공장, 대형 물류센터, 바이오·의약품 제조시설 등 화재안전 중점관리대상을 차례로 방문해 현장점검을 실시한다고 밝혔다.
이번 점검은 사업장별 시설 특성에 맞는 화재 예방·대응체계를 확인하고 관계자 중심의 자율 소방안전관리 수준을 높이기 위해 마련됐다. 이오숙 소방본부장이 직접 주요 사업장을 찾아 안전관리 실태를 살핀다.
소방본부는 첫날인 18일 광주 서구 내방동에 있는 기아 오토랜드 광주 1·3공장을 방문했다.
현장점검에는 이오숙 소방본부장을 비롯해 최병복 광주권역부본부 화재예방과장, 최정식 서부소방서장 등이 참여해 기아 관계자들과 주요 화재 위험요인과 소방안전관리 대책을 공유했다.
점검단은 인화성 위험물을 다량으로 저장·취급하는 도장공장과 전기차 배터리 장착 공장을 직접 둘러봤다.
특히 화재 발생 때 자체 소방대가 신속하게 대응할 수 있는지 초기 대응체계를 확인하고 위험물 저장·취급시설의 관리 실태와 소방시설 유지관리 상태를 집중적으로 살폈다.
소방본부는 19일부터 21일까지 앰코테크놀로지코리아 광주공장과 쿠팡 광주전라2센터, 화순 녹십자공장을 차례로 방문할 예정이다.
앰코테크놀로지코리아 광주공장에서는 반도체 제조과정에서 사용하는 인화성·독성가스의 누출 감지·차단 시스템과 근로자 피난안전시설을 점검한다.
쿠팡 광주전라2센터에서는 불이 나면 빠르게 확산할 우려가 있는 대형 랙식 창고의 화재진압 대책과 자체 소방설비 유지관리 상태를 집중적으로 확인할 계획이다.
화순 녹십자공장에서는 바이오·의약품 제조시설의 특성을 고려해 화재와 화학물질 누출사고 예방대책, 근로자 대피체계, 사고 발생 시 관계기관과의 협조체계 등을 점검한다.
소방본부는 이번 점검에서 발견된 위험요인에 대해 사업장 관계자들과 개선방안을 논의하고, 각 시설이 자체적으로 화재 예방과 초기 대응능력을 강화하도록 지도할 방침이다.
이오숙 전남광주소방본부장은 “화재안전 중점관리대상에서 발생한 화재는 대규모 재난으로 이어질 수 있어 방재시스템을 현행화하고 자율 소방안전관리를 강화하는 것이 중요하다.”고 강조했다.
이어 “시설 관계자들은 화재 발생 초기 대응능력과 피난체계를 철저히 점검하고, 평상시에도 관할 소방관서와 긴밀한 협조체계를 유지해 달라”고 당부했다.

The Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Fire Headquarters has begun on-site fire-safety inspections of large industrial facilities where a fire could cause extensive casualties and property damage.
The fire headquarters said it would inspect key fire-safety management sites over four days from August 18 to 21, including Kia Autoland Gwangju, a semiconductor plant, a large logistics center and a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
The inspections are intended to examine fire prevention and response systems tailored to the characteristics of each facility and strengthen voluntary fire-safety management by business operators. Fire Commissioner Lee Oh-sook is personally participating in visits to the major sites.
On August 18, the first day of the inspections, the team visited Kia Autoland Gwangju Plants 1 and 3 in Naebang-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju.
Participants included Fire Commissioner Lee Oh-sook, Gwangju Regional Deputy Headquarters Fire Prevention Division Director Choi Byeong-bok and Gwangju Seobu Fire Station Chief Choi Jeong-sik. They met with Kia officials to discuss major fire hazards and fire-safety management measures.
The inspection team examined the paint shop, where large amounts of flammable hazardous materials are stored and handled, as well as the electric vehicle battery installation facility.
Inspectors focused on whether the company’s in-house fire brigade could respond promptly during the initial stage of a fire. They also reviewed the management of hazardous-material storage and handling facilities and the maintenance of firefighting equipment.
From August 19 to 21, the fire headquarters is scheduled to visit Amkor Technology Korea’s Gwangju plant, Coupang’s Gwangju-Jeolla 2 Fulfillment Center and GC Biopharma’s Hwasun plant.
At the Amkor Technology Korea plant, inspectors will examine detection and automatic shutoff systems for flammable and toxic gas leaks used during semiconductor manufacturing, along with worker evacuation and safety facilities.
At Coupang’s Gwangju-Jeolla 2 Fulfillment Center, they will focus on firefighting measures for the large rack-storage warehouse, where flames could spread rapidly, and inspect the maintenance of the facility’s fire-protection systems.
At GC Biopharma’s Hwasun plant, the team will assess fire and chemical accident prevention measures, worker evacuation systems and coordination procedures with relevant authorities, taking into account the particular risks of biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
The fire headquarters plans to discuss corrective measures with facility representatives regarding any hazards identified during the inspections. It will also instruct each business to strengthen its fire prevention practices and initial emergency response capabilities.
“A fire at a key fire-safety management facility can develop into a major disaster, making it essential to keep disaster prevention systems up to date and strengthen voluntary fire-safety management,” Fire Commissioner Lee Oh-sook said.
“Facility operators must thoroughly inspect their initial fire-response capabilities and evacuation systems and maintain close cooperation with their local fire authorities,” she added.
