완도해양경찰서가 지역 중학생들을 대상으로 해양경찰의 수사·구조·안전 업무를 직접 경험할 수 있는 현장 중심의 직업체험 프로그램을 운영했다.

완도해양경찰서는 지난 7월 27일부터 8월 1일까지 회진파출소에서 장흥관산중학교와 장흥회덕중학교 학생들을 대상으로 ‘바다에서 찾는 나의 미래’ 해양경찰 직업체험 프로그램을 진행했다고 10일 밝혔다.

이번 프로그램은 고교학점제 전면 시행에 맞춰 학생들이 자신의 적성과 관심 분야를 탐색하고, 앞으로의 진로와 과목 선택에 도움을 받을 수 있도록 마련됐다.

교육은 단순한 직업 소개를 넘어 학생들이 실제 해양경찰 업무와 장비를 직접 체험하는 방식으로 진행됐다.
주요 내용은 해양경찰의 업무와 채용 절차 소개, 현직 경찰관과의 대화, 인명구조 장비 사용법, 연안구조정 항해 및 해양안전 체험, 드론 운용 등이다.

학생들은 구명조끼를 직접 착용하고 심폐소생술과 자동심장충격기(AED) 사용법을 익혔다. 음주측정기를 사용하고 수사 관련 서류를 작성하는 체험에도 참여했다.

특히 동력구조보드를 활용한 해상 구조와 드론을 이용한 해안순찰 등 실제 현장에서 사용되는 장비를 직접 접하면서 해양경찰의 구조·안전 업무를 생생하게 경험했다.

현직 경찰관과 자유롭게 소통하며 해양경찰이 수행하는 다양한 임무와 근무환경, 진로 준비 방법, 채용 과정 등에 관해 질문하고 답변을 듣는 시간도 마련됐다.

완도해경은 이번 프로그램이 청소년들에게 해양경찰의 다양한 직무를 알리고 자신의 적성과 관심 분야를 구체적으로 탐색하는 기회가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.

박상영 회진파출소장은 “청소년들이 직접 보고 체험하면서 해양경찰이라는 직업을 더욱 가까이에서 이해하는 계기가 됐기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 지역 청소년들이 자신의 꿈과 진로를 구체적으로 설계할 수 있도록 다양한 체험 기회를 마련하겠다.”고 말했다.

청소년 진로체험이 실질적인 교육 효과로 이어지기 위해서는 일회성 행사에 그치지 않고 지역 학교와 해양경찰이 연계한 정기적인 체험교육과 안전교육으로 확대할 필요가 있다

The Wando Coast Guard Station offered a hands-on career experience program for local middle school students, allowing them to explore maritime investigation, rescue, and safety operations.
The program, titled “Finding My Future at Sea,” was held at the Hoejin Police Substation from July 27 to August 1 for students from Jangheung Gwansan Middle School and Jangheung Hoedeok Middle School, the Coast Guard said on August 10.
It was organized in response to the full implementation of Korea’s high school credit system, helping students explore their interests and aptitudes and make informed decisions about future courses and career paths.
Rather than providing only a general introduction to the profession, the program allowed students to experience the duties and equipment used by Coast Guard officers in the field.
The activities included an introduction to Coast Guard duties and recruitment procedures, conversations with active-duty officers, training in the use of lifesaving equipment, coastal rescue boat navigation, maritime safety exercises, and drone operations.
Students practiced wearing life jackets, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and using an automated external defibrillator. They also gained experience using breathalyzers and completing documents related to investigative work.
A highlight of the program was hands-on maritime rescue training using a powered rescue board and coastal patrol exercises involving drones. These activities gave students a vivid understanding of the rescue and safety missions carried out by the Coast Guard.
Students were also able to speak freely with active-duty officers and ask questions about Coast Guard responsibilities, working conditions, career preparation, and recruitment procedures.
The Wando Coast Guard expects the program to help young people better understand the Coast Guard’s diverse roles while exploring their own interests and career possibilities.
“We hope the students gained a better understanding of the Coast Guard by seeing and experiencing its work firsthand,” said Park Sang-young, head of the Hoejin Police Substation. “We will continue to provide diverse opportunities for local students to develop and plan their dreams and career paths.”
For these career programs to produce lasting educational benefits, they should be expanded beyond one-time events into regular career and safety education programs conducted in cooperation with local schools.
