인천에서 활동하는 호남 출향 인사들이 한자리에 모여 광주·전남 행정통합에 대한 분명한 지지 의사를 밝혔다.

인천호남향우회 신년회는 단순한 친목 행사를 넘어, 지역 생존과 국가 균형발전을 위한 결단의 장으로 의미를 확장했다.

전라남도는 8일 인천제일고등학교 대강당에서 열린 ‘2026년 인천호남향우회 신년 인사회’에서 고향사랑 실천 도정 설명회를 열고, 지난해 향우들의 고향사랑 실천에 대한 감사의 뜻을 전하며 향우회와의 협력 강화를 약속했다.

이날 행사에는 오명석 인천호남향우회장, 전국호남향우회총연합회 최순모 총회장, 유정복 인천광역시장, 도성훈 인천시교육감, 박찬대 국회의원 등 정·관·향우 인사 500여 명이 참석해 성황을 이뤘다.

전남도는 이 자리에서 ‘전남 사랑애 서포터즈’와 ‘고향사랑기부제’를 중심으로 도정 핵심 정책을 설명하며, 향우들과의 연대를 다시 한 번 확인했다. 특히 올해도 변함없는 고향사랑 실천에 적극 동참해 줄 것을 요청하며, 출향도민과 전남도의 동행을 강조했다.

이날 신년회에서 가장 큰 주목을 받은 화두는 단연 광주·전남 행정통합이었다.
향우들은 행정통합을 둘러싼 논의가 더 이상 선택의 문제가 아닌, 미래 생존을 위한 시대적 과제라는 데 뜻을 모았다.

최순모 전국호남향우회총연합회 총회장은 인사말을 통해 “광주·전남 행정통합은 거스를 수 없는 지역 생존 전략이자 국가 균형발전을 위한 역사적 과제”라며 “320만 광주·전남 시도민과 함께 1,300만 향우가 새 시대의 문을 여는 데 전폭적인 지지를 보내겠다.”고 밝혔다.

오명석 인천호남향우회 회장 역시 “고향 호남이 다시 한 번 힘차게 도약할 수 있도록 향우들이 앞장서겠다.”며 “광주·전남 행정통합을 100만 인천 향우의 이름으로 진심으로 환영한다.”고 힘주어 말했다.

1964년 설립된 인천호남향우회는 현재 약 100만 명의 호남 출향 인사가 참여하는 국내 최대 규모의 향우 조직 중 하나다.
지역 교류, 고향 방문, 나눔 활동 등을 통해 고향과 수도권을 잇는 가교 역할을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다.

이번 신년회는 향우 사회가 광주·전남 행정통합의 든든한 후방이자 동력임을 분명히 각인시키며, 행정통합 논의에 강력한 사회적 메시지를 던진 자리로 평가된다.

Incheon Honam Association New Year Gathering Declares Full Support for Gwangju–Jeonnam Administrative Integration
Honam natives active in Incheon gathered in one place to express their clear and unified support for the administrative integration of Gwangju and Jeonnam.
The Incheon Honam Association’s New Year gathering went beyond a simple social event, evolving into a forum of determination focused on regional survival and balanced national development.
On the 8th, Jeollanam-do Province held a provincial policy briefing on hometown support initiatives at the 2026 Incheon Honam Association New Year Reception, held at the main auditorium of Incheon Jeil High School. The province expressed gratitude for the hometown support shown by association members over the past year and pledged to further strengthen cooperation with Honam communities in the metropolitan area.
The event was attended by some 500 figures from political, administrative, and Honam communities, including Incheon Honam Association President Oh Myeong-seok, Choi Soon-mo, President of the National Federation of Honam Associations, Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok, Incheon Superintendent of Education Do Seong-hoon, and National Assembly Member Park Chan-dae.
During the event, Jeollanam-do highlighted its core policy initiatives, including the Jeonnam Love Supporters program and the Hometown Love Donation Program, reaffirming solidarity with Honam natives living outside the region. The province especially called for continued participation in hometown support efforts, emphasizing a shared journey between Jeonnam and its diaspora.
The most prominent topic of the New Year gathering was the Gwangju–Jeonnam administrative integration. Participants agreed that the discussion is no longer a matter of choice, but a historic task essential to future survival.
In his address, Choi Soon-mo, President of the National Federation of Honam Associations, stated,
“The Gwangju–Jeonnam administrative integration is an irreversible strategy for regional survival and a historic mission for balanced national development,” adding,
“Together with the 3.2 million residents of Gwangju and Jeonnam, 13 million Honam natives will offer their full support in opening the door to a new era.”
Oh Myeong-seok, President of the Incheon Honam Association, also emphasized,
“Honam natives will take the lead in helping our hometown rise once again,” and added,
“We sincerely welcome the Gwangju–Jeonnam administrative integration in the name of one million Honam natives in Incheon.”
Founded in 1964, the Incheon Honam Association is one of the largest hometown organizations in Korea, with approximately one million Honam natives participating in its activities. The association continues to serve as a bridge between the metropolitan area and the Honam region through regional exchange programs, hometown visits, and community service initiatives.
This New Year gathering clearly reaffirmed the Honam community’s role as a strong backbone and driving force behind the Gwangju–Jeonnam administrative integration, delivering a powerful social message in support of the ongoing integration efforts.
