해남교정협의회가 한 해 동안의 교정활동을 돌아보고, 나눔과 신뢰로 이어온 교정 공동체의 가치를 다시 한 번 확인했다.

해남교정협의회는 12월 15일 오후 6시, 해남교도소에서 12월 정기모임 및 송년의 밤 행사를 열고, 김남진 신임 해남교도소장과 정봉규 신임 사회복귀과장을 공식 환영하는 한편, 2025년 교정협의회 운영 성과를 보고했다.

이날 행사에는 서영수 교정협의회 회장을 비롯해 교정위원, 교도소 직원 등 50여 명이 참석해 교정행정과 지역사회의 협력 성과를 함께 나눴다.

연중 이어진 나눔 실천… ‘사람을 향한 교정’

해남교정협의회는 올해도 수형자와 지역사회를 잇는 다양한 나눔 활동을 꾸준히 이어왔다.

협의회는 선희노인요양센터에 백미 300kg을 전달했으며, 임마누엘공동체에는 간식과 음료를 지원했다.

또한 해남교도소에 생수 1만 병을 지원한 데 이어, 불교분과(대흥사)에서도 별도로 생수 1만 병을 추가 지원하며 교정 현장의 복지 여건 개선에 힘을 보탰다.

추석 명절을 맞아서는 컵라면 1,200개를 지원해 수형자들의 명절 온기를 더했다.

불우 수형자·자녀 지원도 지속

경제적으로 어려운 수형자를 위한 지원도 꾸준히 이어졌다.

해남교정협의회는 불우 수형자에게 매월 20만 원씩, 연간 240만 원을 지원했으며, 수형자 자녀에게는 매월 10만 원씩, 연간 120만 원을 지원했다.
여기에 불교분과(대흥사)는 별도로 불우 수형자에게 매월 10만 원씩, 연간 120만 원을 추가 지원하며 교정의 사회적 책임을 함께 실천했다.

헌신에 대한 감사… 표창장 전수

이날 행사에서는 교정 발전과 사회복귀 지원에 기여한 위원들에 대한 표창장 전수식도 함께 진행됐다.

광주지방교정청장 표창은 이희자 위원이 수상했으며, 해남교도소장 표창은 채윤미·최애영·박동석·김대성·유대준 위원에게 각각 전달됐다.

수상자들은 오랜 기간 묵묵히 교정 현장을 지원해 온 공로를 인정받아 참석자들의 큰 박수를 받았다.

신임 교도소장 환영… 신뢰의 메시지

서영수 교정협의회 회장은 인사말을 통해 “한 해 동안 협의회 활동에 적극 협조해 주신 위원 여러분께 깊이 감사드린다.”며 “김남진 신임 교도소장과 정봉규 사회복귀과장의 부임을 진심으로 환영한다.”고 밝혔다.

이어 “교정협의회는 앞으로도 사람을 살리는 교정, 사회로 이어지는 교정을 위해 최선을 다하겠다.”고 강조했다.

김남진 신임 해남교도소장은 “초대해 주셔서 감사드리며, 교정협의회가 매우 체계적이고 따뜻하게 운영되고 있어 앞으로가 더욱 기대된다.”며
“지역사회와 함께 신뢰받는 교정행정을 만들어 가겠다.”고 화답했다.

이날 서영수 회장은 김남진 교도소장과 정봉규 사회복귀과장에게 기념품과 성물을 전달했으며, 교도소 측에서도 교정위원과 직원들에게 답례품을 전하며 감사의 뜻을 전했다.

“원만한 운영, 더 단단한 연대”

이번 정기모임과 송년의 밤은 2025년 해남교정협의회가 원만하게 운영됐음을 공식적으로 확인하는 자리이자, 교정행정과 지역사회가 함께 만들어 온 신뢰와 연대의 성과를 공유하는 의미 있는 시간이었다.

해남교정협의회는 앞으로도 지역사회와 손잡고 회복과 희망을 잇는 교정 공동체로서 역할을 이어갈 계획이다.

**“Correction Is About Saving People”
Haenam Correctional Council Lights the Way for 2025 Through Acts of Sharing**
Year-end meeting and holiday gathering held… People-centered correction bears fruit amid welcome for new prison leadership
The Haenam Correctional Council reflected on a year of correctional activities and once again reaffirmed the value of a correctional community built on sharing and trust.
On December 15 at 6:00 p.m., the Haenam Correctional Council held its December regular meeting and year-end gathering at Haenam Prison. The event officially welcomed Kim Nam-jin, the newly appointed Warden of Haenam Prison, and Jeong Bong-gyu, the new Director of Social Reintegration, while also reporting on the Council’s operational achievements for 2025.
The gathering was attended by Chairman Seo Young-soo, correctional council members, and prison staff, with more than 50 participants sharing the outcomes of cooperation between correctional administration and the local community.
Year-round Acts of Sharing… “Correction Focused on People”
Throughout the year, the Haenam Correctional Council consistently carried out various charitable activities connecting inmates with the local community.
The Council donated 300 kilograms of rice to Seonhee Senior Care Center and provided snacks and beverages to the Immanuel Community. In addition, 10,000 bottles of drinking water were supplied to Haenam Prison, followed by an additional 10,000 bottles donated separately by the Buddhist Division (Daeheungsa Temple), contributing to improved welfare conditions within the correctional facility.
Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the Council also distributed 1,200 cups of instant noodles, adding warmth and comfort to inmates during the holiday season.
Continued Support for Underprivileged Inmates and Their Children
Support for economically disadvantaged inmates was also maintained on a steady basis.
The Haenam Correctional Council provided KRW 200,000 per month to underprivileged inmates, totaling KRW 2.4 million annually, while children of inmates received KRW 100,000 per month, amounting to KRW 1.2 million per year.
In addition, the Buddhist Division (Daeheungsa Temple) independently contributed KRW 100,000 per month—KRW 1.2 million annually—to underprivileged inmates, jointly fulfilling the social responsibility of correction.
Honoring Dedication… Award Presentations
An award ceremony was also held to recognize members who contributed to correctional development and social reintegration efforts.
The Commissioner of the Gwangju Regional Correctional Office Award was presented to Lee Hee-ja, while Haenam Prison Warden’s Awards were given to Chae Yoon-mi, Choi Ae-young, Park Dong-seok, Kim Dae-sung, and Yoo Dae-joon.
The award recipients received warm applause from attendees in recognition of their long-standing dedication and behind-the-scenes service.
Welcoming New Leadership… Messages of Trust and Cooperation
In his remarks, Chairman Seo Young-soo expressed heartfelt appreciation, stating,
“I sincerely thank all members who have actively supported the Council’s activities throughout the year,” and added,
“I warmly welcome Warden Kim Nam-jin and Director Jeong Bong-gyu on their appointments.”
He further emphasized,
“The Correctional Council will continue to do its utmost to promote correction that saves people and connects them back to society.”
Warden Kim Nam-jin responded, saying,
“Thank you for the invitation. I am impressed by how systematically and warmly the Correctional Council is operated, and I look forward to what lies ahead,” adding,
“We will work together with the local community to build a correctional administration founded on trust.”
On the day, Chairman Seo presented commemorative gifts and religious items to Warden Kim and Director Jeong, while the prison also conveyed its gratitude by presenting return gifts to council members and staff.
“Smooth Operations, Stronger Solidarity”
The regular meeting and year-end gathering served as an official confirmation that the Haenam Correctional Council was smoothly and successfully operated in 2025, while also providing a meaningful opportunity to share the trust and solidarity built through cooperation between correctional authorities and the local community.
The Haenam Correctional Council plans to continue its role as a correctional community that connects recovery and hope, walking hand in hand with the local community in the years ahead.
