해남 관동항이 완전히 새 얼굴을 갖췄다.
해남군은 지난 19일 화산면 관동마을 어민센터에서 어촌뉴딜300사업 준공 기념 한마음 축제를 열고, 새롭게 변모한 관동항의 모습을 군민과 함께 축하했다.
이날 행사에는 명현관 해남군수를 비롯해 이성옥 군의장, 김종범 한국어촌어항공단 지사장, 지역 기관단체장, 주민 등 200여 명이 참석했다.
추진 과정과 성과를 공유한 뒤 현장을 직접 둘러보며 “우리 마을이 이렇게 달라졌다”는 뜨거운 반응이 이어졌다.
관동항 어촌뉴딜300사업은 2021년 해양수산부 공모사업에 선정돼 총 89억 원이 투입된 대규모 지역 재생 프로젝트다.
방파제 보강, 선양시설 확충, 연결호안 조성 등 어항 기반 정비를 통해 어업인의 안전과 정주여건을 획기적으로 개선했다.
또한 관동 어민센터 개축, 풍혈탐방로 정비, 참꼬막체험장 조성 등 특화사업을 통해 “머물고 싶은 어촌”, “다시 찾고 싶은 해양 휴식지”라는 새로운 가치를 더했다.
군은 이번 재생을 ‘쉼으로 치유하는 지속가능 어촌’의 실현으로 평가하며, “관동항이 어업인의 삶을 지키는 기반이자 관광과 체험이 어우러지는 해양명소로 도약할 발판이 마련됐다”고 밝혔다.
명현관 해남군수는 “관동항 재생은 해남 어촌의 미래를 밝히는 새로운 출발점”이라며 “청년이 돌아오고 활기가 넘치는 어촌을 만들기 위해 행정력을 집중해 나가겠다.”고 강조했다.
한편 해남군은 2019년부터 현재까지 어촌뉴딜300사업 9개소, 어촌 신 활력증진사업 2개소 등 총 11개 어촌재생 사업을 잇달아 유치하며 연안·어촌 개발에 속도를 내고 있다.
어촌어항 개발사업 또한 중점 추진 중이다.

“Gwandong Port Has Transformed!”… Haenam County Completes Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project
A Three-in-One Renewal of Rest, Healing, and Livability—A Vibrant Fishing Village Reborn
Gwandong Port in Haenam has unveiled a completely new face.
Haenam County held a “Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project Completion Festival” on the 19th at the Gwandong Village Fishermen’s Center in Hwasan-myeon, celebrating the transformed port together with local residents.
The event was attended by Haenam County Mayor Myeong Hyeon-gwan, County Council Chair Lee Sung-ok, Korea Fisheries Infrastructure Public Agency Director Kim Jong-beom, representatives of local institutions, and around 200 residents.
After sharing the project’s progress and achievements, participants toured the renewed facilities firsthand, expressing enthusiastic reactions such as, “Our village has truly changed.”
The Gwandong Port Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project was selected as a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries public contest in 2021, with a total investment of 8.9 billion KRW.
Through common infrastructure improvements—including breakwater reinforcement, slipway expansion, and shoreline connection works—the project greatly enhanced safety and living conditions for local fishers.
In addition, special development projects such as the reconstruction of the Gwandong Fishermen’s Center, improvements to the Pung-hyeol Trail, and the creation of a cockle experience zone added new value, transforming the area into “a fishing village where people want to stay” and “a healing coastal retreat worth revisiting.”
The county evaluated the project as a realization of “a sustainable fishing village that heals through rest,” noting that Gwandong Port has been rebuilt as both a foundation for the livelihood of fishers and a rising marine tourism destination blending sightseeing and hands-on experiences.
Haenam County Mayor Myeong Hyeon-gwan stated,
“Revitalizing Gwandong Port marks a new starting point for the future of Haenam’s fishing villages,” adding,
“We will concentrate our administrative efforts to build vibrant coastal communities where young people return and new energy grows.”
Meanwhile, since 2019 Haenam County has secured nine Fishing Village New Deal 300 projects and two Fishing Village Vitalization Projects—eleven coastal regeneration projects in total—accelerating development across its fishing and coastal areas. The county is also prioritizing broader fishing-port development initiatives.
