해남군민광장 광장갤러리에서 고려시대 ‘해남청자’를 만나는 특별한 전시회가 열리고 있다.
오는 12월 21일까지 진행되는 ‘해남청자 바다로 가다’ 전시회는 해남역사박물관 건립을 앞둔 사전 전시로, 지역 역사와 문화유산의 가치를 조명한다.
전시는 고려시대 최대 청자 생산지였던 해남 화원면과 산이면 지역에서 출토된 유물을 중심으로 구성됐다.
철화청자, 청자완, 청자 접시, 장구 등 생활용품부터 도침, 갑발 등 제작도구까지 포함해 총 80여 점의 청자가 관람객을 맞는다.
특히 군산 십이동파도와 진도 명량 해저에서 발굴된 해남 청자도 함께 전시되어 해남청자의 해상 교류 역사까지 한눈에 볼 수 있다.
전시 패널은 해남청자가 육지를 넘어 바다로 진출하며 세계와 만나는 과정을 이해하기 쉽게 설명하고 있으며, 지난해 송호해수욕장에서 발견된 해남선 이야기도 영상과 패널로 소개된다.
전문 해설사도 배치되어 관람객이 청자와 관련된 다양한 이야기를 생생히 접할 수 있도록 돕는다.
군 관계자는 “고려 초기 최대 청자 생산지였던 해남을 알리고, 해남청자의 역사성과 우수성을 널리 알리는 기회가 되길 바란다.”며 “관람객들이 해남청자의 바다로 향한 여정을 통해 지역 역사를 흥미롭게 체험할 수 있을 것”이라고 밝혔다.
올해 광장갤러리에서는 이번 전시를 비롯해 마한 역사 사진전, 기증기탁전 등 다양한 문화 행사가 진행돼 지역 문화 공간으로 자리매김하고 있다.

“Embracing the Sea of Goryeo Celadon… Haenam Preserves a Millennium of Color”
A special exhibition showcasing Goryeo-era Haenam Celadon is currently open at the Plaza Gallery in Haenam County Plaza.
Running until December 21, the “Haenam Celadon Goes to the Sea” exhibition serves as a prelude to the upcoming Haenam History Museum, highlighting the historical and cultural value of the region.
The exhibition features artifacts excavated from Haenam’s Hwaweon-myeon and Sani-myeon areas, once the largest celadon production centers during the Goryeo period.
On display are over 80 pieces, including everyday items such as iron-painted celadon, celadon bowls, plates, and drums, as well as tools used in celadon production, like potter’s wheels and kiln accessories. Notably, celadon recovered from the seabed near Gunsan’s Sipidong waves and Jindo’s Myeongryang is also showcased, illustrating Haenam Celadon’s maritime trade history.
Exhibition panels explain how Haenam Celadon traveled from land to sea and reached the wider world, while videos and panels introduce the story of the Haenam ship discovered last year at Songho Beach.

A county official said, “We hope this exhibition will raise awareness of Haenam as the largest early Goryeo celadon production site and showcase the historical significance and excellence of Haenam Celadon. Visitors can experience the fascinating journey of Haenam Celadon as it ventured into the sea, gaining insight into our local history.”
This year, the Plaza Gallery has hosted various cultural events, including the Mahan History Photo Exhibition and Donation Exhibition, establishing itself as a key cultural space in the region.
