진도군이 전남노동권익센터와 함께 외국인 근로자를 위한 ‘겨울옷(작업복) 나눔 행사’를 오는 10월 19일(일) 진도군 실내체육관에서 개최한다.
이번 행사는 한국의 겨울에 익숙하지 않은 동남아 지역 외국인 근로자들에게 따뜻한 겨울 의류를 지원하고, 지역사회와의 상생과 연대를 강화하기 위해 마련됐다.
행사는 전남노동권익센터가 주최하고, 고용노동부·전라남도·전남노사민정협의회·아름다운가게 등이 함께 참여한다.
지난해 영암에서 첫 행사를 성공적으로 개최한 데 이어, 올해는 진도군에서 두 번째로 열린다.
지난해 행사에는 전남 지역의 외국인 근로자 약 2,000여 명이 참여, 1만 벌 이상의 겨울옷과 작업복이 전달되며 큰 호응을 얻은 바 있다.
올해 역시 지난 9월부터 겨울 의류 수거가 활발히 진행 중이며, 기증된 옷은 전문 세탁 및 건조 과정을 거쳐 위생적으로 정비된 후 행사 당일 외국인 근로자들에게 전달될 예정이다.
진도군 인구정책실 관계자는 “지역 농어업 분야에서 외국인 근로자들은 이미 필수적인 노동력으로 자리 잡고 있다.”며, “이번 나눔 행사가 단순한 의류 전달을 넘어 이주노동자와 지역사회가 함께 상생하는 따뜻한 연대의 장이 되길 바란다.”고 말했다.

Jindo County and Jeonnam Labor Rights Center Host ‘Winter Clothing Donation Event’ for Migrant Workers
– October 19 at Jindo Indoor Gymnasium… A Warm Act of Solidarity –
Jindo County announced that it will hold a ‘Winter Clothing (Workwear) Donation Event’ for migrant workers on Sunday, October 19, at the Jindo County Indoor Gymnasium, in cooperation with the Jeonnam Labor Rights Center.
The event aims to support Southeast Asian migrant workers who are unfamiliar with Korea’s cold winters by providing them with warm winter clothing, while also strengthening solidarity between the local community and migrant workers.
Hosted by the Jeonnam Labor Rights Center, the event is organized with the participation of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Jeollanam-do Provincial Government, the Jeonnam Labor-Management-Civic-Government Council, and Beautiful Store. This year’s event marks the second edition, following the first successful event held in Yeongam last year.
During last year’s event, around 2,000 migrant workers from across the Jeonnam region participated, and more than 10,000 pieces of winter clothing and workwear were distributed, receiving an enthusiastic response.
This year, the collection of winter garments has been actively underway since September. Donated clothing items are being professionally washed and sanitized before being distributed to migrant workers at the event.
A Jindo County Population Policy Office official said,
“Migrant workers play an essential role in the region’s agriculture and fisheries sectors,” adding,
“We hope this event goes beyond the simple act of donating clothes and becomes a meaningful occasion for mutual support and warm solidarity between the local community and migrant workers.”
