완도해양경찰서(서장 김길규)는 지난 8월 15일 오후 8시 30분경 완도군 완도읍 주도 앞 인근 해상에서 물에 빠진 시민을 신속히 구조한 김현일 씨(55세, 남)에게 감사장을 수여했다고 10일 밝혔다.

완도해경에 따르면, 당시 한 남성 A씨(40대)가 계단에서 바다를 바라보다 미끄러져 해상으로 추락했으며, 이를 목격한 김현일 씨가 주저 없이 바다에 뛰어들어 구조를 시도했다.

곧이어 출동한 완도해경 구조대가 김 씨와 함께 신속하게 대응한 결과, A씨는 무사히 구조될 수 있었다.

완도해경 관계자는 “위험을 무릅쓰고 타인을 돕기 위해 나선 김현일 씨의 용기와 따뜻한 마음에 깊이 감사드린다.”며 “앞으로도 시민과 함께 안전한 해상 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 전했다.

Wando Coast Guard Presents Commendation to Citizen for Brave Sea Rescue
Mr. Kim Hyun-il’s courageous act of saving a drowning man praised as a role model
The Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Gil-gyu) announced on the 10th that it presented a letter of commendation to Mr. Kim Hyun-il (55, male) for his swift and courageous rescue of a drowning citizen near Judo Island, Wando-eup, around 8:30 p.m. on August 15.
According to the Wando Coast Guard, a man in his 40s (identified as Mr. A) slipped and fell into the sea while standing on a staircase overlooking the water. Witnessing the accident, Mr. Kim immediately jumped into the sea without hesitation and attempted to rescue him.
Shortly thereafter, a Coast Guard rescue team arrived at the scene and, working together with Mr. Kim, quickly rescued the man, who was brought to safety without injury.
A Wando Coast Guard official stated, “We express our deep gratitude to Mr. Kim Hyun-il for his bravery and selfless act in risking his own safety to help another,” adding, “We will continue to work together with citizens to create a safer maritime environment.”
