울돌목 바다에 승리의 함성이 다시 울려 퍼졌다.

전라남도와 해남군, 진도군이 공동 주최하고 (재)전라남도 관광재단이 주관한 2025 명량대첩축제가 지난 19일부터 21일까지 해남·진도 울돌목 일원에서 사흘간 열리며 총 17만 8천여 명의 발길을 모았다.

올해 축제는 최첨단 디지털 융복합 기술을 통해 428년 전 명량해전을 실감 나게 재현, 관람객들에게 압도적인 감동을 선사했다.

특히 판옥선을 그대로 구현한 길이 32m의 주무대에서 펼쳐진 주제공연은 ICT, 액션 활극, 파이어웍스가 어우러진 실감형 무대로, 이순신 장군의 행적과 명량대첩의 긴박한 순간을 드라마틱하게 그려내며 큰 호평을 받았다.

19일 개막식은 해군 군악대와 해남·진도 군민 1,200여 명이 함께한 진도대교 출정 퍼레이드로 시작해 축제의 분위기를 한껏 끌어올렸다.

이어 우수영 명량무대와 성문광장에서는 강강술래대회, 청소년 트로트 가요제, 케이팝 랜덤플레이, 버블·매직쇼 등 남녀노소가 즐길 수 있는 공연이 이어지며 흥겨운 축제의 장이 됐다.

또한 명량하늘놀이터, 수문장 교대식, 이순신 밥상 체험, 장군복 체험 등 참여형 체험 프로그램과 울돌목 해상케이블카, 스카이워크 체험까지 더해져 관광과 체험이 어우러진 종합 축제로 자리매김했다.
1597년 정유재란 당시 단 13척의 배로 133척의 왜선을 물리친 울돌목 승전의 역사를 기리는 명량대첩축제는, 이제 대한민국을 넘어 세계인이 함께 즐기는 역사문화축제로 성장하고 있다.

명현관 해남군수는 “첨단기술과 K-컬처가 어우러진 무대를 통해 명량 승리의 감동을 다시 느낄 수 있었다”며, “앞으로도 남도의 가을을 대표하는 세계적 축제로 발전시켜 나가겠다.”고 밝혔다.

The Roar of Victory Echoes Across Uldolmok: Myeongnyang Battle Festival Draws 178,000 Visitors
Historic naval triumph revived with cutting-edge technology… A festival blending patriotism and K-Culture
The roar of victory once again echoed across the waters of Uldolmok.
Co-hosted by Jeollanam-do Province, Haenam County, and Jindo County, and organized by the Jeollanam-do Tourism Foundation, the 2025 Myeongnyang Battle Festival was held over three days from September 19 to 21 at the Uldolmok Strait, drawing a total of 178,000 visitors.
This year’s festival captivated audiences with an immersive digital recreation of the Myeongnyang naval battle fought 428 years ago, delivering overwhelming emotion through state-of-the-art convergence technologies.
The highlight was the main performance staged on a 32-meter replica of a Panokseon battleship. Blending ICT, live-action combat scenes, and fireworks, the spectacular show vividly dramatized Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s heroic deeds and the tense moments of the Myeongnyang battle, earning rave reviews from audiences.
The opening day began with a grand parade across Jindo Bridge, featuring the Navy band and 1,200 residents from Haenam and Jindo, which instantly elevated the festive atmosphere.
At Usuyeong Myeongnyang Square and Seongmun Square, diverse programs such as the National Ganggangsullae Dance Contest, Youth Trot Singing Contest, K-pop Random Play, and bubble & magic shows provided entertainment for all ages, transforming the area into a vibrant festival ground.
Interactive experiences—including the Myeongnyang Sky Playground, Guard Changing Ceremony, Admiral Yi’s Table food program, costume try-ons, and photo zones—alongside the Uldolmok Marine Cable Car and Skywalk, further enriched the festival, combining tourism and hands-on activities into a comprehensive cultural event.
The Myeongnyang Battle Festival commemorates the legendary 1597 naval victory at Uldolmok, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin, with just 13 ships, defeated 133 enemy vessels during the Imjin War. Today, the festival has grown into one of Korea’s leading historical and cultural celebrations, attracting global attention.
Haenam County Governor Myung Hyun-gwan stated, “This year’s festival showcased a new stage blending cutting-edge technology with K-Culture, allowing us to relive the emotion of Myeongnyang’s victory. We will continue to develop it into a world-class festival that celebrates both the spirit of Admiral Yi and the beauty of Namdo’s autumn.”
