완도해양경찰서(서장 김길규)는 3일 오전 5시 56분께 전남 완도군 남방파제 인근 해상에서 변사자가 발견됐다고 밝혔다.

조업을 위해 출항하던 선장이 시신을 발견해 신고했으며, 완도해경은 연안구조정과 구조대를 급파해 오전 6시 25분경 수습했다.

시신은 처음 신원이 확인되지 않았으나, 오전 6시 37분 예인선 선장 실종 신고가 접수되면서 대조 결과 A씨(남·1957년생·부산 거주)로 밝혀졌다.

신고자는 예인선 기관장으로, 아침 식사 시간에 선장이 보이지 않아 실종 신고를 한 것으로 전해졌다.

완도해경은 정확한 사망 경위를 조사 중이다.

Tugboat Captain Found Dead Near Wando Port
The Wando Coast Guard (Chief Kim Gil-gyu) announced that at 5:56 a.m. on September 3, a body was discovered in the waters near the southern breakwater of Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do.
The body was first spotted and reported by a fishing vessel captain departing for operations. The Coast Guard immediately dispatched a coastal patrol boat and rescue team, recovering the body at around 6:25 a.m.
Although the identity was initially unknown, a missing person report for a tugboat captain was filed at 6:37 a.m. A comparison confirmed the deceased to be Mr. A (male, born 1957, resident of Busan).
The missing report was filed by the tugboat’s chief engineer, who raised the alarm after the captain did not appear for breakfast.
The Wando Coast Guard is currently investigating the exact cause of death.
