완도군은 26일 완도해양치유센터에서 ‘제4회 해양바이오산업 육성 위원회 회의 및 토론회’를 열고, 2026~2030년 해양바이오산업 5개년 기본 계획 수립 방향을 논의했다.

회의에는 신우철 완도군수와 전남도, 한국해양과학기술원, 국립해양생물자원관, 한국식품연구원 등 관련 기관 전문가와 기업 대표 등 22명이 참여했다.

장덕희 한국해양과학기술원 연구센터장은 “해조류 1차 가공 후 발생하는 ‘세컨드 컷’을 활용한 산업 소재 생산을 위해 기반 시설이 필요하다.”고 강조했다.

토론에서는 군내 시설 간 협력 체계 구축과 권역별 연계 방안 등 다양한 의견이 제시됐다.

손영곤 전남도 수산유통가공과장은 “유망 기업 발굴과 제품 개발, 마케팅, 판로 지원 등 맞춤형 지원을 지속할 것.”이라고 밝혔다.

신우철 군수는 “군민과 전문가 의견을 반영해 완도만의 차별화된 해양바이오 정책을 수립하고, 전국 단위 해양바이오 소재 공급기지 구축을 선도하겠다.”고 말했다.

완도군은 2020년 국내 최초로 해양바이오산업 육성 조례를 시행하며, 기반 시설 구축과 창업 지원을 통해 군민과 기업의 호응을 얻고 있다.

Wando County Holds Discussion on 5-Year Marine Bioindustry Strategy
― Policy Directions Discussed for Full Utilization of Seaweed and Infrastructure Development ―
On the 26th, Wando County held the “4th Meeting and Discussion of the Marine Bioindustry Promotion Committee” at the Wando Marine Healing Center, discussing the directions for the 5-year basic plan for the marine bioindustry (2026–2030).
The meeting was attended by 22 participants, including Wando County Mayor Shin Woo-cheol, representatives from Jeollanam-do, the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology, the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea, the Korea Food Research Institute, and other experts and business leaders in the marine bioindustry.
Jang Deok-hee, Head of the Future Strategy Research Center at the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology, emphasized, “Infrastructure is needed to utilize the ‘second cut’ of seaweed—stems and leaves left after primary processing—for industrial materials production.”
The discussion covered various topics, including establishing cooperative systems among local facilities and linking regional collaboration zones.
Son Young-gon, Director of Fisheries Distribution & Processing at Jeollanam-do, stated, “We will continue tailored support for promising companies, including product development, marketing, and market expansion.”
Mayor Shin Woo-cheol said, “We will incorporate the opinions of residents and experts to establish differentiated marine bioindustry policies unique to Wando, and lead the creation of a nationwide supply hub for marine bioindustry materials.”
Wando County, which in July 2020 became the first local government in Korea to implement the Marine Bioindustry Promotion Ordinance, has gained strong support from residents and businesses through infrastructure development and startup support initiatives.
