진도군이 농림축산식품부의 ‘2026년 농업근로자 기숙사 건립사업’ 공모에 최종 선정되며 외국인 근로자 주거 환경 개선에 본격적으로 나선다.

이번 사업은 고군면 오산리에 40명 수용 규모의 기숙사를 조성하는 것으로, 객실과 세탁실, 공용식당, 휴게실 등 근로자 생활 편의를 위한 시설을 갖출 예정이다.

총사업비는 35억 원으로, 국비 12억 원, 도비 3억 6천만 원이 투입되며 2028년 완공을 목표로 추진된다.

진도군 관계자는 “기숙사 건립으로 외국인 근로자들의 주거 안정성을 확보하고, 농업 인력 수급의 불확실성을 완화할 수 있을 것”이라며, “앞으로도 우수 인력 확보를 위해 농업 근로환경 개선에 최선을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.

진도군은 올해 외국인 계절근로자 922명을 받아 농촌 일손 부족을 해소하고 있으며, 근로자 고용 농가에 빈집 개보수, 이동식 조립주택 설치비용을 지원하고 있다.

또한 외국인 근로자의 의료비 지원, 재입국 항공료 지원, 언어소통 도우미 배치 등 처우 개선 사업을 병행하며 안정적인 근로 환경 조성에 힘쓰고 있다.

이번 기숙사 건립은 진도군이 외국인 근로자 확보와 농촌 고용 안정, 나아가 농업 경쟁력 강화에 한 발 더 다가가는 발판이 될 것으로 기대된다.

Jindo County Leads the Way in Stabilizing Housing for Foreign Agricultural Workers: Dormitory Construction Confirmed for 2026
Jindo County has been selected for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ “2026 Agricultural Worker Dormitory Construction Project,” marking a significant step toward improving housing conditions for foreign agricultural workers.
The project will establish a dormitory in Osan-ri, Gogeun-myeon, with a capacity for 40 residents. The facility will include rooms, laundry facilities, a communal dining hall, and a lounge area to ensure convenience and comfort for workers.
The total project cost is 3.5 billion KRW, including 1.2 billion KRW in national funding and 360 million KRW in provincial funding, with completion scheduled for 2028.
A county official stated, “The construction of the dormitory will secure stable housing for foreign workers and help alleviate uncertainties in agricultural labor supply. We will continue to do our best to improve working conditions to attract skilled personnel.”
This year, Jindo County has welcomed 922 foreign seasonal workers to address labor shortages in rural areas. The county also supports farmers employing foreign workers by providing funds for renovating vacant houses and installing prefabricated movable homes.
In addition, programs for foreign workers include medical expense support, airfare assistance for re-entry, and placement of language assistants, all aimed at creating a stable and supportive working environment.
The dormitory project is expected to serve as a key step for Jindo County in securing foreign labor, stabilizing rural employment, and ultimately strengthening the county’s agricultural competitiveness.
