해남군이 잦은 강우로 인한 토양 과습으로 배추 재배지에 병해충이 확산 조짐을 보이자, 예찰 강화와 신속한 방제 대응에 총력을 기울이고 있다.

군에 따르면 최근 고온다습한 환경이 지속되면서 배추 무름병과 뿌리마름병(일명 똑딱병)이 연이어 발생하고 있으며, 배추 좀나방과 진딧물 등 해충 피해 또한 빠르게 확산되고 있다.

무름병은 잎자루와 뿌리부터 썩어 들어가 배추의 상품성을 크게 떨어뜨리고, 뿌리마름병은 외부 자극에 의해 지상부와 지제부가 ‘똑딱’ 소리와 함께 분리되는 피해를 유발한다.

또한 배추 좀나방과 담배나방은 잎을 갉아 결구 불량을 초래하고, 진딧물은 즙액을 빨아먹는 동시에 바이러스병을 옮기는 주요 매개체로 지목되고 있다.

이에 해남군은 밭 배수로 정비, 병든 포기 조기 제거, 등록약제의 적기 살포 등 철저한 현장 관리가 병해충 확산을 막는 핵심이라며, 농가에 각별한 주의를 당부했다.

특히 군은 현장기술지도반을 운영해 재배지를 수시로 점검하고 피해 발생 시 즉각적인 기술 지도를 실시하는 등 신속한 대응체계를 유지하고 있다.

군 관계자는 “병증이 확산되기 전 초기 증상 단계에서 방제하는 것이 가장 효과적”이라며, “방제시기를 놓치면 수량과 품질이 급격히 저하될 수 있는 만큼, 농가의 세심한 예찰과 적극적인 대응이 무엇보다 중요하다.”고 강조했다.

Haenam County has ramped up pest and disease monitoring and launched swift control measures as excessive rainfall has led to waterlogged soil conditions in cabbage fields, raising concerns over a possible outbreak.
According to the county, the continued hot and humid weather has triggered the spread of soft rot and clubroot (commonly known as “snap disease”), while infestations of diamondback moths and aphids have also been increasing rapidly.
Soft rot causes the petiole and root to decay, significantly reducing the commercial value of cabbages, while clubroot leads to a separation between the stem and root with a distinctive “snap” sound, resulting in severe yield losses.
In addition, diamondback and tobacco moths damage cabbage leaves, preventing proper head formation, and aphids not only feed on plant sap but also act as major vectors for viral diseases.
In response, the county emphasized that proper drainage maintenance, early removal of infected plants, and timely application of registered pesticides are key to preventing further spread of pests and diseases.
Haenam County has also deployed on-site technical guidance teams to frequently inspect cultivation areas and provide immediate technical support when outbreaks occur, ensuring a prompt and effective response system.
A county official stated, “Control measures are most effective when applied at the early symptom stage before the disease spreads,” adding, “If the timing of pest and disease control is missed, both yield and quality can decline sharply. Farmers are urged to carry out close monitoring and proactive management.”
