진도군이 천연기념물 진도개의 체계적인 보존과 양육 농가 지원을 위해 진도개 보존관리비 지급을 완료했다고 14일 밝혔다.

진도개 보존관리비는 진도개의 혈통 유지와 건강 관리, 안정적인 양육 환경 제공을 위해 지원되며, 이번에는 등록된 모든 진도개를 대상으로 지급됐다.

그동안 군은 우수 혈통 수컷과 노령견 중심으로 보호료를 지원했으나, 올해는 지원 범위를 확대해 보존 효과와 실질적 혜택을 높였다.

군 관계자는 “지원 대상을 확대해 양육 농가의 경제적 부담을 줄이고, 진도개의 혈통 보존과 균형적인 관리를 동시에 추진할 계획”이라며, “앞으로도 세계적 명견으로서의 진도개 위상을 강화하기 위한 다양한 정책을 발굴하겠다.”고 말했다.

진도군은 앞으로도 진도개 보존·관리 체계 강화와 함께 지역 문화자산으로서의 가치 제고를 지속적으로 추진할 예정이다.

Jindo County Completes Payment of Conservation Subsidies for Natural Monument ‘Jindo Dogs’

Jindo County announced on October 14 that it has completed the payment of conservation subsidies for the natural monument Jindo Dog, aiming to systematically preserve the breed and support local breeders.
The conservation subsidies are provided to maintain the bloodline, ensure health management, and provide a stable breeding environment for Jindo Dogs. This year, the subsidies were extended to all registered Jindo Dogs, based on a breeding survey.
Previously, support focused on male dogs with superior bloodlines and senior dogs, but this year the county has expanded the coverage to enhance preservation effectiveness and practical benefits.
A county official said, “By expanding the support, we aim to reduce the economic burden on breeders while promoting balanced management and bloodline preservation. We will continue to develop policies to strengthen the status of Jindo Dogs as a world-renowned breed.”
Jindo County plans to continue enhancing the conservation and management system of Jindo Dogs while promoting their value as an important local cultural asset.
